The paper presents an example of in situ testing to evaluate the geotechnical conditions performed for the organic subsoil of Antoniny embankment. The results obtained from cone penetration tests and dilatometer tests are presented. Results of cone penetration tests and dilatometer tests were compared with the laboratory test results. From an analysis of the results new factors to evaluate the preconsolidation pressure σ’p, the undrained shear strength τfu and modulus M of organic soils from the cone penetration test and the dilatometer test are proposed. Analysis of tests results indicates the usefulness of in situ testing in the evaluation of change in organic subsoil condition caused by embankment loading.
Przedstawiono sposób postępowania przy doborze wytrzymałości na ścinanie bez odpływu do analizy stateczności nasypu w okresie budowy, uwzględniając różne mechanizmy zniszczenia podłoża. Stateczność oceniono na przykładzie zapory czołowej Nielisz. Omówiono udział poszczególnych mechanizmów zniszczenia wzdłuż powierzchni poślizgu pod nasypem bez ławki i z ławką.

The paper presents the problem of selection of the undrained shear strength due to different failure mechanisms of the subsoil to assess the stability of the embankment with a bank on organic soils. Stability assessment was performed on the example of Nielisz dam. In the paper a method of selection of the zones with different failure mechanisms of the subsoil for stability analysis of embankment with bank on soft subsoil is proposed.
The possibility of the final treatment of mine water from chemical leaching has been investigated. Despite water purification, high nitrate levels remain in these waters and must be removed. The main requirements are the lowest economic, operating and staffing levels. These requirements are best achieved by the removal of nitrates using biological methods, in our case using the pond bottom soil. Experiments were carried out in a batch mode. The effect of the environment on the denitrification process, the influence of the type and amount of the organic substrate and basic parameters of the denitrification such as redox potential, pH and dissolved oxygen were studied.
