In the paper a practical method of determination of propulsion characteristics of a ship with controllable pitch propeller is presented. The method is based solely on the results of the energy measurements performed onboard the ship. Therefore it is not necessary to make use of any results of ship hull model tests and engine bed tests. Planning of the experiment with the use of standard values of input parameters makes it possible to considerably lower the number of measurement points and this way to shorten time and cost of the measurements.

W pracy przedstawiono wybrane problemy regulacji pneumatyczno-hydraulicznych układów sterowania okrętowych śrub nastawnych. Posłużono się przy tym opisem wypadku uderzenia specjalistycznego statku pożarniczego w pirs paliwowy w Porcie Północnym w Gdańsku. Podjęte przez autora czynności, w tym analizy i komisyjnie przeprowadzony eksperyment, pozwoliły wyjaśnić przyczyny tego zdarzenia. Należy sądzić, że zaprezentowanie przeprowadzonych prac wyjaśniających i ich wyników stanowić może dobry materiał poznawczy dla projektantów i użytkowników układów sterowania.

The paper presents selected problems of the controllable pitch propeller pneumatic and hydraulic control systems. For this purpose description of the collision of the rescue fire ship with the trestle of the fuel pier in the North Port in Gdansk was used. Activities undertaken by author, included analysis and collectively conducted experiment enabled explaining the reasons of the event. It might have been expected that presented description of explaining works and theirs results are a useful knowledge material for designers and users of the control systems.

W artykule przedstawiono metodę budowania wspomaganego komputerowo systemu doboru nastaw układu napędowego statku ze śrubą nastawną. Jego głównymi elementami są modele funkcjonalne powią- zujące zmienne wyróżnionego procesu decyzyjnego oraz model decyzyjny wyboru optymalnych nastaw. Do budowy modeli funkcjonalnych wykorzystano metodę sztucznych sieci neuronowych. Model te zostały wykorzystane, jako funkcje kryterialne do budowy modelu optymalizacji dwukryterialnej z ograniczeniami.

This paper deals with a method of building the computer aided-system for settings of en-gine ship propulsion with the controllable pitch propeller. The main system components are functional models connecting model variables of the distinguished decisionmaking process and a decision-making model of selecting the optimal propulsion settings. To build the functional models, the method of artificial neural networks has been selected. These models have been taken as objective functions for building of the two-objective optimization model with limitations.
