Contemporary Catholic shrines in addition to religious activities are also entities conducting business activities. It is required in those activities to read and produce value for the customer. Visitors to the pilgrimage centers expect from those who manage the shrines professional delivering of the derived benefits and costs born in the process of purchase and use of products and services. It has been proved by surveys undertaken in five Polish shrines which conduct wide business activities. The pilgrims accept the use of economic tools to manage the religious centre. However, the studies have shown that knowledge of the quality of business management is still not an important measure for choosing the shrine. The pilgrims, however, would like to have their donation well used by those who are in charge of the religious centre.

Angesichts der Pilgerschaft als religiösem Phänomen in den drei große monotheistischen Religionen geht die Autorin der Pilgerkritik in den Schriften der frühen Kirchenväter nach. Die dort nachweisliche Verschiebung von der äußeren zur inneren Wallfahrt lässt sich heute wieder im Katechismus der Katholischen Kirche feststellen. Von dort aus werden Konsequenzen für die pastorale Begleitung von Pilgern diskutiert hinsichtlich der Wallfahrtsmotivation, dem heiligen Ort, den Überschritt von der äußeren zur inneren Wallfahrt wie auch ökumenischen Aspekten.

According to the religious phenomenon of pilgrimage in the monotheistic religions the author references to the criticism of pilgrimage in the early church fathers. Their shifting of the focal point from the extern to an interior pilgrimage can also be considered today in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. From there consequences concerning the motivation to Christian pilgrimage, the locus sacer, the transitus from extern to interior pilgrimage as well as ecumenical aspects are discussed for the pastoral accompaniment of pilgrims.

Autorka prezentuje krytykę zjawiska pielgrzymowania w monoteistycznych religiach podejmowaną przez wczesnych ojców Kościoła. Jej wielostronne podejście do centralnego zagadnienia, obejmujące zarówno zewnętrzne, jak i wewnętrzne aspekty problemu, poddano refleksji w świetle Katechizmu Kościoła katolickiego. Wychodząc od kwestii motywacji pielgrzymowania, zagadnień odnoszących się do miejsc świętych jako celu pielgrzymowania, zjawiska ewoluowania świadomości pielgrzymów (od pielgrzymowania fizycznego ku duchowemu), jak też aspektów ekumenicznych, artykuł omawia problemy duszpasterstwa pielgrzymkowego.
