Zbadano skład i zmiany sezonowe stężenia pestycydów chloroorganicznych (DDTs, HCHs, CHLs i HCB) oraz chlorobifenyli (PCBs) w powietrzu atmosferycznym w Gdańsku. Próbki powietrza pobierano comiesięcznie w okresie od września 1991 do lipca 1992. Stałym składnikiem powietrza atmosferycznego w Gdańsku były: HCB, α-HCH, y-HCH, p,p'-DDT, o,p'-DDT, p,p'-DDE, o,p DDE, p,p'-DDD, o,p'-DDD i PCBs. Składników chlordanu (CHLs) nie wykryto w stężeniach powyżej granicy oznaczalności metody.

The concentrations of organochlorine pesticides such as DDTs, HCHs, CHLs, HCB and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were determined in ambient are samples collected in city of Gdańsk in 1991-1992 to understand concentrations, sources and seasonal distribution. Polyurethane foam plugs were used as adsorbents for collection of persitent organochlorines in ambient air samples. Identification and quantification of organochlorines were carried out using a capillary column gas chromatography and ECD (63Ni) detection. HCB, -HCH, y-HCH, p,p'-DDT, o,p'-DDT, p,p'-DDE, o,p'- DDE, p,p'-DDD, o,p'-DDD and PCBs were detected in all samples, while the constituents of technical chlordan were absent in concentration above the detection limit of the method (trans-chlordane <14 pg/m3, cis-chlordane <8,1 pg/m3 and trans-nonachlor <7,4 pg/m3). The concentrations of HCB and PCBs were depended on the air temperatures, hence their main source can be related to a process of degasing from the soil.

Background. Animals acquire new skills due to conditioned responses resulting from a sequence of neutral and unconditioned stimuli affecting their bodies; there is a constant time interval between the stimuli. Both stimuli become associated after a number of repetitions and animal bodies start to respond to the initially neutral stimulus as to the unconditioned one. The aim of this study was to determine whether exposure of fish to a pyrethroid—deltamethrin (an active ingredient in Decis 2.5 EC pesticide that disturbs the proper operation of the nervous system) affects the ability to learn in common carp. Materials and Methods. Production of new types of behaviour was triggered in fish by using the unconditioned stimulus (an irritating electric impulse) and the conditioned stimulus (light). The experiment was performed in a tank divided into two compartments where fish could swim freely from one compartment to another. The ability to learn was assessed on the basis of the following types of behaviour evoked in response to the conditioned stimulus: locomotor agitation, preference to occupy or avoid certain areas in the tank, an escape response, etc. Results. In fish exposed to 0.35 μg · L–1 deltamethrin (for common carp concentration 10 times lower than lethal) for 35 min the ability to produce and remember the conditioned defence response was reduced and time interval since presenting the conditioned stimulus till occurring the initial signs of the conditioned response was prolonged. Conclusion. The classical conditioning method revealed that sublethal concentration of deltamethrin restricted ability to learn and retain information in common carp, despite absence of observable intoxication symptoms.

Zbadano skład i zmiany sezonowe stężenia pestycydów chloroorganicznych (DDTSy HCHs, CHLs i HCB) oraz chlorobifenyli (PCBs) w niefiltrowanej wodzie wiślanej pobranej w Kieżmarku pod Gdańskiem. Próbki wody pobierano comiesięcznie w okresie od sierpnia 1991 do lipca 1992. Oszacowano wielkość ładunku DDTs, HCHs, CHLs, HCB i PCBs wnoszonego wraz z wodami wiślanymi do Zatoki Gdańskiej.

The composition and loads of organochlorine pesticides (DDTs, HCBs, HCHs, CHLs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) transported with the Vistula River waters to the Gulf of Gdansk in 1991-1992 has been determined. The method of organochlorine compounds measurement was capillary gas chromatography with ECD after adsorption of the analyte on Ambertlite XAD-2, resin and subsequent elution, clean-up and HPLC fraction of the extract. The concentrations of DDTs, HCBs, HCHs, CHLs and PCBs in the Vistula River water ranged between 120-840, 7.6-52, 1600-410000, 8.1-57 and 120-300 pg/l, respectively. During 12 months period of the study the total load of DDTs, HCBz, HCHs, CHLs and PCBs transported with the Vistula River water to the Gulf of Gdańsk was assessed on 10.54, 0.73, 1377, 0.38 and 5.02 kg, respectively.

Oznaczono stężenie pozostałości dieldryny, aldryny, endryny, izodryny, endo- sulfanu 1 i 2 w śledziach, dorszach, storniach, okoniach, sandaczach, minogach, babkach obłych, dobijakach i tobiaszach złowionych w Zatoce Gdańskiej. W analizie zastosowano niedestrukcyjną metodę ekstrakcji, oczyszczania i frakcjonowania próbek z rozdziałem w kolumnie kapilarnej chromatografu gazowego i detekcję techniką niskorozdzielczej (1000 amu) spektrometrii mas (HRGC/LRMS). Dieldrynę wykryto w rybach w stężeniu od 0,84 do 6,6 ng/g masy mokrej (od 15 do 70 ng/g masy lipidów), a obecności pozostałych pestycydów nie wykryto powyżej granicy oznaczalności metody, tj. < 0,014- < 0,048 ng/g m.m. dla aldryny, < 0,015- < 0,082 ng/g m. m. dla endryny, < 0,081- < 0,021 ng/g m.m. dla izodryny, < 0,18-< 0,32 ng/g m.m. dla endosulfanu 1 i < 0,12-< 0,21 ng/g m.m. dla endosulfanu 2.

The residues of dieldrin, aldrin, endrin, isodrin, endosulfan 1 and 2 has been determined in a several species of fish caught in the Gulf of Gdańsk in 1992. The method of measurement was capillary gas Chromatograph and low resolution mass spectrometry (HRGC/LRMS) after a nondestructive extraction and clean-up step with a further fractionation of the extract on Florisil column. Apart from dieldrin no other cyclodiene pesticides studied were found in fishes in detectable amounts, and for dieldrin concentrations ranged from 0.84 to 6.6 ng/g wet weight.
