Green advertising encourages the public to adopt ecoresponsible behaviour in view of the deterioration of the environment. Thus, to involve everyone personally or collectively, it uses the imperative mode and deictics. The aim of this study is to highlight the main themes conveyed in green advertising in France and Poland, and also to show the interplay of personal poles in imperative slogans that become rallying phrases for the green cause. Polish makes general use of the imperative in the 2nd person singular, whereas French makes extensive use of the 2nd person plural. In both languages, the use of the 1st person plural is frequent, often accompanied by an adverb ensemble (razem) to emphasise the collective involvement in adopting eco-responsible actions.

This paper deals with the strategical linguistic use of person deixis and personal pronouns in political texts. For this analysis the author selected the general elections for the National Council in Austria in 2008 as an example. Thus advertising material in printed form and published on the Internet has been used for this study.

Taking a cross-cultural perspective, this paper considers the functions of author-reference pronouns in contemporary English-medium academic discourse. While considering the range of authorial roles in academic discourse, the study explores how academic writers exploit various rhetorical functions of author-reference pronouns for communicating with their readers and enhancing the persuasiveness of their discourse. The cross-cultural investigation is carried out on a corpus of research articles in applied linguistics written by Anglophone and Czech linguists. The analysis considers the frequency of use and the most prominent rhetorical functions of personal pronouns in relation to the generic structure of research articles. The differences in the rate and functions of author-reference pronouns in research articles written by Anglophone and Czech linguists is discussed taking into consideration the intended readership and the divergences between the Anglophone and the Czech academic writing literacies.
