The article concerns functions of paratexts in literary theory translation. The author analyses the particular cases when an essential change of original paratexts entails marginalizing the nowadays illegible indicators of source intellectual contexts and reducing the original terminology. Remarkably, it often results in depriving a source text of its original interpretive environment and activating thoroughly different fields of theoretical discourse: changing the genre of literary theory discourse, misrepresenting methodological genealogy of original concepts, and reorienting the worldview of an original author.
