The text is devoted to car nicknames. The author analyzes the material collected using a survey method. A linguistic (onomastic) and cultural analysis has been carried out. The most important question concerns the function of car nicknames. Due to the fact that these names usually do not distinguish objects (in the family there is often only one car), the main function the author points out is the incorporative one.

Příspěvek je věnován přezdívkám automobilů. Autor analyzuje materiál získaný anketní metodou. Podává lingvistickou (onomastickou) a kulturní analýzu. Nejdůležitější otázka se týká funkcí přezdívek automobilů. Vzhledem ke skutečnosti, že tato jména obvykle neslouží k rozlišení jednotlivých objektů (rodina má často jen jedno vozidlo), hlavní funkce, na kterou autor upozorňuje, je funkce inkorporační.

On sociolinguistic aspects of hypocoristics in the Jordanian context

This study explores the sociolinguistic factors that contribute to the formation and functions of hypocoristics in a Jordanian Arabic-speaking community. Data were collected from three different Jordanian Arabic dialects: rural, urban and Bedouin, resulting in a total of 96 templates. The results reveal significant differences in using hypocoristic templates among the three dialects, plus a notable effect of the participants’ temperament when forming hypocoristics. It is concluded that Bedouin and rural linguistic resources tend to have a diversity of hypocoristics, a considerable number of which are orally inherited, particularly narrated by the elderly people, in comparison with urban people. Cross-linguistically, the same pattern emerges in both Bedouin and rural dialects, where people often tend to show a great deal of loyalty to their local values, traditions, and consequently linguistic forms as reflected in the case of endearments and hypocoristics. The results also show notable differences between males and females in terms of using hypocoristic forms, which supports the controversial concept of ‘genderlect’.

Tato studie se věnuje sociolingvistickým faktorům, které přispívají k tvoření a využívání hypokoristik v jordánských arabsky mluvících komunitách. Data byla získána ze tří dialektů jordánské arabštiny (JA): venkovského, městského a beduínského a na jejich základě bylo možné identifikovat 96 modelů. Výsledky odhalily výrazné rozdíly v tom, jak jsou hypokoristické modely užívány v jednotlivých výše uvedených dialektech, a také výrazný vliv, který může mít nálada mluvčího na tvoření hypokoristik. Dá se říct, že na rozdíl od městských dialektů jsou beduínské a venkovské dialekty co do hypokoristik rozmanitější a poměrně velký počet jich je také předáván ústně. Stejný model je možné identifikovat mezijazykově, lidé na venkově a Beduíni mají tendenci projevovat více věrnosti svým místním hodnotám a tradicím, a následně jazykovým formám, v nichž projevují více náklonnosti i skrze zdrobněliny. Výsledky také ukazují, že mezi ženami a muži jsou v používání hypokoristik rozdíly, což podporuje kontroverzní koncept „gendrolektu“.

The article presents the objectives and methods of analyzing the evaluative lexis which motivates the surnames of Poles. As already announced in the sketch, the paper maintains the conviction that the valuation is the basics of the categorization of reality, and the act of naming is a particularly interesting field of research, since it is a person who is being evaluated. The analysis of appellatives is carried out in the anthropological contexts. The lexis discussed in the article accords with the semantic categories based on the typology of values created by Jadwiga Puzynina.
