The problem of optimum of reinforcement for reinforced concrete slabs is considered in the paper. Two criterions of yielding in a plate crossection are compared: of Lenschow and Sozen (LS), and the criterion based on the Huber-Mises-Hencky hypothesis. The analysis shows that the amount of reinforcement calculated using the HM criterion is lower than using LS criterion for plates under uniaxial bending and biaxial bending with moment of the same sign. When the plate under biaxial bending moment with the opposite sign in considered, The LS criterion is more economical. The question which needs to be considered in addition is, whether the reinforcement calculated using mentioned criterions is enough because for the stiffness of the slab.
