Postępująca w ostatnich latach urbanizacja i antropogenizacja naturalnych środowisk bytowania zwierząt dzikich wpływa znacząco na wzmożone interakcje zwierząt dzikich i środowisk ich bytowania, które w ujęciu ekonomicznym z reguły określane są wspólnym mianem szkód łowieckich. Dodatkowo stan ten pogłębiany jest utrzymującą się tendencją wzrostową liczebności zwierzyny grubej, a tym samym wysokich wskaźników lokalnych zagęszczeń poszczególnych gatunków. Problematykę szkód rozpatrywać należy wielopłaszczyznowo, co uwarunkowane jest zarówno ich charakterem, jak i specyfiką gatunków je wyrządzających oraz miejscem powstania szkody. W ostatnich latach ze względu na wzmożony ruch komunikacyjny dość powszechne stają się przypadki kolizji drogowych z udziałem dzikich zwierząt, głównie ssaków kopytnych, określanych wspólnym mianem – zwierzęta łowne.

During the last few years, the progressive increase in the number of cases of road collisions and accidents involving wild animals has been recorded. Such situation is clearly conditioned by the urbanization of natural living environment of wild animals in the form of road networks, as well as the growth of wild ungulates population, that are mainly the subjects of this kind of traffic incidents. In the case of transportation damage made by wild animals, during which a motor vehicle involved in the incident is usually damaged, there is none clear legal regulations on identifying the person responsible for compensating the damage suffered by the vehicle owners. In cases of motor vehicle damage during road accidents and collisions involving wild animals, efforts to claim compensation from the legal owner of the game, i.e. the Treasury, are irrelevant. At the same time, there are opportunities of claiming the compensation from the road manager, where the accident occurred, or its insurer, or possibly from the tenant or manager of the hunting area, where the accident occurred, but only in cases of a causal link between the hunting run in the same date and place and the road collision.
