The aim of the study was to collect and statistically analyze commercial, recreational, and poaching catches of European eel and to describe them. Total commercial catches in the waters of the Oder and Vistula river basins in 2012 was 88.5 tons. Estimated recreational catches were 32.4 tonnes, while total poaching catches of eel were estimated at 30.5 tonnes. The total commercial, recreational, and poaching catch of eel in the Oder and Vistula river basins in 2012 was 151.4 tonnes, which were 11.2% lower than those in 2011. The share of commercial catches was 58.5%, while recreational and poaching catches were 21.4% and 20.1%, respectively.
The aim of the study was to collect and process statistical data about the size of European eel commercial, recreational, and poaching catches and to describe them in detail. Total commercial eel catches in the Oder and Vistula catchment basins in 2011 were 86.8 tonnes. Estimated recreational eel catches were 43.6 tonnes, while poaching catches were estimated to be about 40 tonnes. Total eel catches in the Oder and Vistula catchment basins (including commercial, recreational, poaching) were 170.4 tonnes. This was 25.9% lower than the total catches of 2010. The share of commercial catches was 51%, while the shares of recreatonal and poaching were 25.6% and 23.4%, respctively.
