During many years’ research, the stratigraphy of Quaternary deposits in the area surrounding Konin has elaborated. In the young Quaternary strata the Eemian fossil lakeland was established and the exposed Mikorzyn section was found. Previous geological and palynological analyses of the site prove a nearly complete sequence of Eemian and Vistulian deposits. Furthermore, archival records of drill cores indicate that older interglacial sediments may also have been deposited about 10 metres deeper in this particular area. To test this possibility, a relatively deep test borehole—Mikorzyn 1 was carried out in the distance about 70 metres only. The sedimentological and palynological core analyses prove the Eemian age of examined organic materials. The borehole, established only the presence of ca.10 m offset in the bottom part of the Eemian strata. This fact, as well as other faults and Tertiary coal injections into glacial sediments, confirmed the occurrence of neotectonic activity.

In the recent decade a number of data of different investigations (pollen, diatom, molluscs analysis, lithological investigations, dating by methods of absolute geochronology, etc.) have been collected during the large-scale geological mapping of Lithuanian Maritime region (Lithuanian Coast). The results of investigations confirmed that there were three Littorina Sea transgressions at the Lithuanian Coast: the first manifested approximately in 8500-7800 conventional 14C years BP, the second (maximal) - in 6200-5900 and the third - in 5300-4000 conv. 14C years BP. The Post-Littorina Sea maximum was in about 3600-3400 conv. 14C years BP. The Littorina Sea shoreline displacement curves were carried out. The present-day positions of shorelines of the Littorina Sea as well as other Baltic basins are displaced in different altitudes in separate parts of the Lithuanian Coast due to oscillatory neotectonic movements of Earth crust blocks during Late Glacial and Holocene.

The aim of this paper is to present a multidisciplinary project dealing with analysis of young crustal movements in the Orava Basin, Polish Western Carpathians, on the basis of a three year long gravimetric, geodetic, geological and morphostructural study. The problem consists in quantitative interpretation of the obtained gravimetric results, i.e. in combining temporal gravity changes with those of geodynamic crustal processes. Gravity surveys conducted in 2004 and 2005 show a decrease in gravity values at benchmarks situated in the Central Carpathian Palaeogene Basin and Magura Nappe, while the central potion of the Orava Basin reveals the opposite trend. Such changes, if confirmed by successive measurement campaigns, appear to indicate recent uplift of the basin margins and subsidence of the basin itself.

Structural analysis of the Miocene deposits of the northern marginal part of the Carpathian Foredeep, from the Nida Trough in the west to Tarnobrzeg in the east shows that three tectonic phases affected Neogene deposits of the Carpathian Foredeep: (1) an Early Styrian phase - Early Badenian synsedimentary movements, (2) a Moldavian phase (Late-Styrian) - Early/Late Badenian, after deposition of gypsum and during deposition of the lower part of the Pecten Beds, (3) an Attican phase - Sarmatian-Pliocene(?), after deposition of the Krakowiec Beds. The two Badenian phases involved reactivation of NW-SE basement faults Early-Styrian phase activity along these faults resulted in facies changes and thickness variability in the Baranów Beds. Reactivation of these faults during the Moldavian phase resulted in a considerable increase of their throws. Strata in the footwalls of faults were antithetically rotated to form structural traps for subsequent hydrocarbon and sulphur deposits. During the Attican phase, a horizontal compression stress field (compression direction - 30-50°) produced transverse and oblique faults (NE-SW and ENE-WSW) with strike-slip and oblique-slip movements. These faults were responsible for "pumping" hydrocarbons into the earlier formed traps. Minor deformations within gypsum deposits and seismotectonic features of the Witów Gravels are also discussed.

Bochnia salt deposit is situated in the northern part of the Bochnia anticline. This anticline is the result of Carpathian overthrust activities over the Badenian formation (Poborski, 1952). The subject of the studies was the Lobkowicz Gallery. The Crosscuts 1 and 2 were geologically mapped in the chosen parts of the gallery. In addition several rock samples for various studies have been taken. One of the enterolithic anhydrite was cut and polished to be examinated in transmitted light. Researches prove that the present geological structure of the Lobkowicz Gallery in the Bochnia Salt Mine have been formed by tectonic movements which took place during the Carpathian overthrusting over the Miocene formations as well as in present times.

Until the recent time genesis of palaeoincisions is one of the debatable problems among the Quaternary investigators in the East Baltic area. Distribution of palaeoincisions in the East Baltic area is closely correlated with the pre-Quaternary bedrock lithology and permeability as well as with recently active faults. These regularities confirm the theory that most palaeoincisions in this area were formed as subglacial tunnel valleys during catastrophic discharge of meltwaters, due to high pressure conditions beneath the ice sheet.
