The article is concerned about the issue of the history and the names of Polish public universities from the Middle Ages to the present day. In the resulting essay there is an analysis of factors such as: tradition, the validity of normative acts, as well as historical processes, which are the determinants shaping the names of the national universities. Important place in the scope of this discussion is the question of acceptance of the patrons' names by some of the Polish universities. The study focuses on considerations of a historical nature without making the analysis of the language issues. The study is supported by tabular statement, which contains the names of all public universities currently operating in Poland with regard to their historical names, along with the period of their operation.

The review of the book proves that the value of proper names and knowledge about them are essential keys to the history of the nation and country. These are the foundations of building and strengthening national identity. So says the author. In my opinion, it is also a valuable item for linguists who carry out basic confrontational research in the field of proper names.

The paper concerns Frege’s notion of Bedeutung. My main thesis is that Frege notion of meaning should be understand as a truth-value potential of an expression rather than reference/denotation. This interpretation allow us to treat homogenously Bedeutung of names, sentences and predicates. It should be obvious in the case of predicates, because Bedeutung of predicates aren’t some objects, but some functions (something ‘unsaturated’). Therefore, the name-relation (relation name-referent) cannot be implied in the very meaning of the word ‘Bedeutung’.

W artykule omawiam Fregowską kategorię Bedeutung. Główną tezą artykułu jest to, że za Fregowskie znaczenie (Bedeutung) należy uznać potencjał wartości logicznej wyrażenia, a nie referencję czy też denotację. Za pomocą tej interpretacji możemy w sposób jednorodny ująć znaczenie nazw, zdań oraz predykatów. Powinna być ona oczywista w przypadku predykatów, ponieważ znaczeniem (Bedeutung) predykatów nie jest żaden przedmiot, lecz funkcja (coś ‘nienasyconego’). Z tego względu, relacja nazwowa (relacja nazwa-nośnik) nie powinna być wpisana w samo znaczenie słowa ‘Bedeutung’.

Problem. The current activities of specialised scientific societies – IMACSSS (International Martial Arts & Combat Sports Scientific Society) and IPA (Idokan Poland Association), carried out from September 2023 to August 2024, need to be described in their historical context. The author also comments on the methodology of martial arts research. Method. The main method applied here is the author’s participatory observation in the communities of martial arts practitioners and researchers. This is complemented by an analytical method – a content analysis of the literature on the subject. Results. The historical and cultural context of Western civilisation, of central Europe and Poland are indicated. This is connected to the history of the origin and present-day functioning of the organisations indicated above. The author also points out a methodological error – a literal or logical translation of the historicallyestablished names of martial arts. Conclusions. A proper theoretical perspective helps avoid interpretation errors. Knowledge of the broader context allows for in-depth analyses. The quarterly “Ido Movement for Culture Journal of Martial Arts Anthropology” tries to implement the recommendations of the new science paradigm in the field of holistic, multi-aspect and multidisciplinary approaches.

W kontekście historycznym opisania wymaga aktualna działalność wyspecjalizowanych towarzystw naukowych – IMACSSS (International Martial Arts & Combat Sports Scientific Society) i SIP/IPA (Stowarzyszenie Idokan Polska / Idokan Poland Association), realizowana w okresie wrzesień 2023 – sierpień 2024. Autor przedstawia także swoje uwagi w zakresie metodologii badań nad sztukami walki. Metoda. Obserwacja uczestnicząca autora w środowiskach praktyków i badaczy sztuk walki jest tu główną metodą. Dochodzi do tego metoda analityczna – analiza treści literatury przedmiotu. Wyniki. Wskazano na kontekst historyczny i kulturowy cywilizacji Zachodu, środka Europy i Polski. Łączy się to z historią powstania i dzisiejszym funkcjonowaniem wskazanych wyżej organizacji. Autor wskazał też na błąd metodologiczny, jakim jest dosłowne lub logiczne tłumaczenie utrwalonych historycznie nazw sztuk walki. Wnioski. Właściwa perspektywa teoretyczna pozwala uniknąć błędów interpretacji. Znajomość szerszego kontekstu pozwala na pogłębione analizy. Kwartalnik „Ido Movement for Culture Journal of Martial Arts Anthropology” stara się realizować wskazania nowego paradygmatu nauki w zakresie ujęć całościowych, wieloaspektowych i multidyscyplinarnych.

The article is a part of cycle of publications exploring the heritage of Karol Wojtyła – pope John Paul II. This time the author attempts at a linguistic and culturological reconstruction of the interwar Wadowice verbalized in the study of art historian Michał Rożek and photographer Adam Bujak. Old names of places, characters and various architectonic objects premitted to recreate the atmosphere of the town in which the next successor of Saint Paul was growing up.

The text concerns the role of language used by the protagonists of Michał Witkowski’s prose in forming their identities, i.e., sexual identity. Michał Witkowski, the author of Lubiewo, Margot and Drwal, is often called the most important Polish gay writer. In his works, he presents such topics as poverty, sexuality, sex and gender. While describing marginalised social groups, he uses their original language which appears to be a space of freedom. Inside it, the protagonists can freely form their identities.

The article presents a grammatical construction of field names used in everyday language of the inhabitants of the Kolno municipality. All the collected names belong to two structural models. The first one is formed by singular and plural toponyms, the second one is formed by two-part names and prepositional names. In microtoponyms there is a tendency to form name variations.

W świetle utworów prozatorskich i poetyckich Wincentego Pola autorka ustaliła czynniki tożsamości narodu polskich, do których zalicza: terytorium, na którym żyje naród, nazewnictwo geograficzne i kulturowe, język i tradycję. Te czynniki decydują o samoświadomości narodu i utrwalają pamięć. Literaturę i naukę traktował Pol jako służbę Polsce i sposób na rozbudzanie patriotyzmu.

In the light of Wincenty Pol’s prose and poetic works the author has established a list of factors forming national Polish identity. They include the following: territory inhabited by the nation, geographical and cultural names, language and tradition. These factors determine national self-awareness and preserve remembrance. Wincenty Pol treated literature and science as a service to Poland and a way of awakening patriotism.
