The aim of this study was to investigate the distribution of plantar pressure under the paws of selected mammalian species, as well as to assess the possibility of using static, postural, and dynamic pedobarography in diagnostics. A PEL 38 pedobarograph with TWIN 99 software working on Windows XP was used. We analyzed the distribution of pressure on the plantar side of the paws of a dog, chinchilla, and Egyptian spiny mouse. Static pedobarographic examination of each animal was performed. Postural and dynamic examinations were also attempted. Two pressure areas on the plantar sides of the dog’s paws were distinguished. In other animals it was impossible to distinguish the areas of the plantar sides of paws because of the insufficient resolution of the device, but it was logical to consider two-, three-, four- and five-point types of pressure. The results suggest that only static pedobarographic examination is possible in each research examination of these animals, The study also showed repetitive, complex patterns of pressure distribution on the plantar side of the paw, which are specific to each animal.
