The aim of this article is to reconstruct the circumstances of the funeral of Ludwik Norwid, which are still shrouded in mystery. The author gradually narrows down the area of her search to finally observe that – in a way parallel to the fate of Ludwik’s brother Cyprian – it is not possible to precisely locate the grave. Irrespective of the above, the grave is almost certain to be located in the Powązki Cemetery in Warsaw, which could play the role of a symbolic place of remembrance, also in its current function of the family tomb.

Oddział por. Antoniego Korotyńskiego liczący około 250 powstańców został okrążony pod Lututowem przez wojska carskie z garnizonu kaliskiego (ok. 750 żołnierzy) i garnizonu wieluńskiego (ok. 880 żołnierzy). Dowódca A. Korotyński będąc w tzw. „zatrzasku” wydał rozkaz swojemu zastępcy por. o pseudonimie „Tatar” ażeby z ok. 130 powstańcami przerwał okrążenie wojsk rosyjskich i udał się w kierunku Górki Klonowskiej. W lesie zwanym Koziołek pozostał por. A. Korotyński ze 120 powstańcami, uzbrojonymi przeważnie w broń palną i kosy. Uformowany w czworobok oddział powstańczy prawie przez trzy godziny bohaterstwo odpierał ataki konnicy i piechoty carskiej. Powstańcy nie mając żadnej szansy wydostania się z okrążenia, złożyli broń zdając się na łaskę Rosjan. Płk Pomerancew wydał rozkaz kozakom zamordowania bezbronnych powstańców. Po bitwie obok lasu Koziołek , pozostało 64 zabitych, 46 ciężko rannych oraz 3 wzięto do niewoli. Zmarłych, rannych powstańców wraz z ich bohaterskim dowódcą pochowano na miejscowym cmentarzu parafialnym w Lututowie. Pozostałych poległych (zamordowanych) powstańców, pod osłoną nocy pochowano w lesie Cisarek i po wycofaniu się wojsk carskich na skraju lasu Koziołek.

Lieut. Antoni Korotyński’s division of about 250 insurgents was surrounded at Lututów by tsarist soldiers from the garrison in Kalisz (ab.750 soldiers) and Wieluń (ab.880 soldiers). Being trapped commander A. Korotyński ordered the second-in-command lieutenant whose pseudonim was ‘Tatar’ to take ab.130 insurgents and break through the surrounding Russian soldiers to go towards Górka Klonowska. Lieut.A. Korotyński stayed in a forest called Koziołek with 120 insurgents armed with firearms and scythes. Having formed a quadrangle the division of insurgents bravely beat off the Russian cavalry and infantry for three hours. Having no chance of breaking through the surrounding soldiers, the insurgents laid down their arms throwing themselves on the Russians’ mercy. Lieut. Pomerancew ordered the Cossacks to murder the defenseless insurgents. After the battle next to Koziołek forest there were 64 dead, 46 severely wounded and three insurgents were taken prisoners. The wounded insurgents who died, together with their brave commander were buried at the local parochial cemetery in Lututów. The remaining murdered insurgents were buried at night in Cisarek forest and, after the tsarist soldiers left, on the edge of Koziołek forest.
