In the paper results of monitoring quantity and quality of water on areas of different land utilization were analyzed. The analysis was carried out on the basis of measurements made in hydrological years 1998-2000 in the Hutka (0.52 km2) and the Potaszka (1.33 km2) river catchments. These catchments are located near Poznań in the southem part of the Wielkopolska Lake District, Poland. Obtained reduction of out flow in the afforested Hutka catchment, on the contrary to the arabie utilized Potaszka catchment are significant. Water ąuality of the investigated rivers was evaluated as good. The water of the Potaszka river was in the first class of cleanness (Polish standards). Whereas in the Hutka river water in summer and autumn months, very low concentration of dissolved oxygen and high concentration (and contents) of phosphates were noted. The phosphates from soluble compounds of phosphorus were produced in anaerobic conditions. Significant differences of out flow pollution contents (nutrients) in water were not proved in the investigated rivers. Quantity of floating matter in river of the Hutka forest microcatchment was significantly smaller than in the Potaszka river draining water from extensively used arable lands.

The paper presents the results of over 6 years research on biogenes concentrations in surface waters originated from 4 measurement and control sections located in the catchment of Trybska Rzeka stream, which is a right-bank tributary of Białka river whose mouth lies on the right shore of Czorsztyn reservoir. The research has been aimed at determining the impact of mountainous lands management system on the biogenes content in the surface waters flowing across the area. Since numerous factors, quite often difficult to identify, can influence the number of biogenes in water, the field studies were conducted in three very small catchments that were similar in terms of physical and geographical, as well as climatic conditions, but the lands differed in the agricultural management systems. An additional research section on Trybska Rzeka watercourse within the built-in area of Trybsz village has been established to determine the influence of village farmstead areas on biogenic contaminants introduced to surface waters via various agents. The conducted research allowed to conclude that the agricultural management system applied to microcatchments significantly impacts biogenes content in surface waters flowing out from the concerned area. Nitrate nitrogen and phosphates contents are most heavily impacted. It was also found that in mountainous areas grasslands are most effective in reducing nitrogen compounds content in infiltration waters. Settlement areas with inconsistent water and sewage disposal management systems and inappropriately designed facilities for storing sewage and manure contribute gravely to degenerating surface waters.

W pracy przedstawiono analizę warunków przyrodniczo-gospodarczych oraz ocenę możliwości poprawy retencji wodnej w rolniczej mikrozlewni lessowej (450 ha). Badany obszar znajduje się w zlewni rzeki Ciemięgi, w pobliżu Lublina. Charakteryzuje się rosnącym deficytem wodnym. W trakcie badań określono parametry fizyczne zlewni, użytkowanie gruntów oraz rozpoznano charakterystyki hydrologiczne. Stwierdzono konieczność wprowadzenia zadarnień i zadrzewień ochronnych (zwiększenie szorstkości hydraulicznej, urozmaicenie krajobrazu) oraz budowę małych zbiorników wodnych (zwiększenie retencji powierzchniowej). Ważnym elementem działań na rzecz ochrony zasobów wodnych powinno być zapobieganie erozji gleb, czy też ograniczanie migracji zanieczyszczeń w kierunku linii ciekowych.

The paper presents the analysis of natural and economic conditions, as well as opportunities of improvement of water retention in agricultural loess microbasin (450 ha). The studied area is localized in the Ciemięga river catchment, in the vicinity of Lublin. It is characterized by increasing water deficit. Physical parameters, land management structure and hydrological characteristics of drainage catchment were determined during the study. Necessity of introduction of protective soddings and plantings (enlargement of hydraulic roughness, landscape diversity), as well as building of small water reservoirs (enlargement of surface retention) was affirmed. Soil erosion prevention or reduction of impurity migration into the stream lines should be an important part of water resources protection.
