The Fe(Co,Ni)ZrB systems have been prepared in the form of ribbons and powders by using the rapid quenching and mechanical alloying techniques, respectively. X-ray diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy measurements revealed that the melt-spun ribbons were fully amorphous. Significant differences in the structure of the powder samples depending on their preparation method were observed by Mössbauer spectroscopy. The powders obtained by high-energy ball milling of the ribbons remain amorphous while powders prepared from the crystalline elements form the bcc iron-based solid solutions.
