The article deals with the pair muscida huba, found in several 14th- and 15th-century Latin-Czech glossaries. Its interpretation is not immediately clear, because there were two homonymous words húba in the Old Czech, the one meaning “muzzle”, the other “fungus”. Jan Gebauer, the author of the authoritative Old Czech dictionary, ascribed to the word huba paired with muscida the meaning “fungus”. On the basis of parallels from the translation of Ptolemyís Almagest written by Gerhard of Cremona in the 12th century and a Latin-Norman glossary from the 13th century, the author argues that the word actually meant “muzzle”. He also discusses the etymology of the Latin word and the route by which it found its way in Latin-Czech glossaries.

The article presents preliminary findings concerning the legal vocabulary found in medieval Latin-Polish court books. On the basis of various entries related to the lien law, it has been shown that many Latin fragments of monuments abound in names derived from the Roman law, which then were replaced with the equivalent Polish names. However, the way writers have used them makes it very difficult to determine their contextual meaning.

This paper concerns the vocabulary of the Church’s law and administration in Latin texts written during the Middle Ages in Poland and its automatic extraction using the methods of corpus linguistics. The first part of this article considers the basic theoretical assumptions of the automatic extraction of this specialized vocabulary and the main characteristics of the Electronic Corpus of Polish Medieval Latin. In the second part presents the methods and results of term extraction. For the purpose of this research, a specialized subcorpus, including synodal statues and documents of ecclesiastical chapters, was created and then compared with the reference corpus. As a result, a list of lexemes, which appeared relatively frequently in the subcorpus and rarely in the reference corpus, was obtained. This difference in relative frequency was the main criterion for the recognition of potential terminological units. Verification on the basis of lexicographic data demonstrated the effectiveness of the adopted methods. The aim of this paper was to present the usefulness of the Electronic Corpus of Polish Medieval Latin for the research and analysis of specialized vocabulary.

The paper describes the history of Dictionary of Medieval Latin from Polish Sources both in institutional and methodological aspects. It shows what challenges as for the establishment of the editorial rules the first editor of the dictionary M. Plezia had to face and how these rules thank to his successor, K.Weyssenhoff-Brożkowa, had evolved. It presents, as well, the most recent e-projects undertaken by the dictionary team.
