Folk Art and Craft as Cultural Heritage. Ethnological Perspective and Practice on an Example of Slovakia

The study follows the transformations in ethnologists’ understanding of cultural heritage in relation to folk culture. The text also refers to how their work changed in practical everyday life in Slovakia. The focus is on examples from the realm of tangible culture, traditions in handicrafts and visual art, their consumers and creators who have been termed “folk creators” to date. The contribution briefly describes the major features of the traditions at the time of their flourishing (from the 19th century until the first half of the 20th century) and their gradual decline and transformation (from the second half of the 20th century until now). The text calls attention to how the group and the particularity of consumers has changed and the regional differences in manufacture traditions have been removed; on the other hand, it highlights the ever stronger current efforts to revitalize the traditions in the name of the safeguarding of cultural heritage. The author also pays attention to the role the institutions, namely the state-funded Centre for Folk Arts and Crafts, play in the adjustment of parameters in relation to the use of folk production heritage. On empiric examples from the present, the text describes the differences in approaches and ways of treating the local inventory of local manufacture and visual traditions. The contribution closes with an article devoted to the discourse about the task of ethnology.

In crisis, the competitiveness edge of a claimed produce acquired a special value. The paper considers the structure of competitiveness as a unity of quality, expenditure, profit and prices: describes method of forming competitiveness. It exemplifies an erroneous interpretation of competitiveness and methods of its "rapid determination". To analysis and synthesize an integral level of competitiveness, one may use the SADT method of detailed step-be-step hierarchy of the objects under study.

Przeprowadzono badania zastępowania krzemionkowych popiołów lotnych popiołami fluidalnymi z węgla kamiennego w technologii ABK. Uzyskane wyniki wykazały, że popioły fluidalne mogą zastępować 40% popiołów krzemionkowych. Równocześnie, ich stosowanie pozwala na zmniejszenie w spoiwie zawartości wapna o 10-20%, a gipsu o 60%, a nawet 100%. Warunkiem efektywnego stosowania popiołów fluidalnych do wytwarzania autokIawizowanego betonu komórkowego jest ciągła kontrola jakości popiołu fluidalnego przed jego zastosowaniem do produkcji ABK.

The goal of the research was the replacement ot elassic siliceous fly ash by fluidized bed boiler ash, from hard coal in AAC technology. The results have shown that the fluidized fly ash can replace the traditional siliceous fly ash up to 40%. Simultaneously its use can decrease the lime content in binder from 10 to 20% and gypsum even totally. The main condition for effective usage of fluodized fly ash is constant control of its quality.

Zbadano właściwości popiołów lotnych wapiennych i mieszanin popiołowo-żużlowych w celu oceny możliwości ich zastosowania do produkcji cementu i betonu. Stwierdzono, że popiół lotny wapienny z Elektrowni Bełchatów ma zmienny skład chemiczny, jednak zawartość Si02 wykazuje niewielkie wahania. Wskaźniki aktywności tych popiołów mają korzystne wartości przekraczające wymagania normy. Mieszaniny popiołowo-żużlowe mogą być stosowane do produkcji cementu i betonu. Ich skład chemiczny nie wykazuje większych wahań, a wskaźnik aktywności ma korzystne wartości. Odpad ten przed zastosowaniem w przemyśle cementu i betonu wymaga suszenia i przemiału.

The properties of calcareous fly ash and ash-slag mixtures, in order to assess their application possibility for the production of cement and concrete, were examined. It was found that chemical composition of calcareous fly ash from Bełchatów Power Plant indicates high variability, however, Si02 content changes are low. The activity indexes of this fly ash are very good and exceeded requirements. The ash-slag mixtures can be used for production of cement and concrete. Their chemical composition does not show high variability, and activity indexes are favourable. Drying and miliing of this waste are required prior using it for cement and concrete production.
