The information warfare definition and scope of endeavours according to German viewpoints have been presented in the article. An increasing role of information on contemporary battlefield has been discussed. The genesis of information warfare has been partly described, focusing mainly on the Cold War period. It has been stated that information warfare elements can be applied in all possible war scenarios. The knowledge of the enemy intentions and possibilities has been proved to be necessary to wage the fight efficiently therefore gaining data on enemy, their analysis, immediate transfer to addresses and their reliability are essential in this area. The role of information systems on contemporary battlefield, information warfare forms and the objects of opposite party’s attack have been presented.
