Performance analysis of a 1.0 tonne desiccant evaporative cooling storage structure for mango fruits was studied. The study examined the effects of inlet air conditions and water flow rates through an absorber on the cooling performance of the system. The airflow rate was approximately 0.24 m3·s -1 and water flow rates through the absorber varied from 0 to 0.252 l·s -1 . The system produced approximately 7 kW of cooling at water supply rate of 0.252 l·s -1. A simple linear correlation was established for condition line slope from inlet to exiting air conditions for all the water flow rates. Lines of best fit resulted in correlation coefficient better than 0.96. The observed temperatures with a direct evaporative cooler, tested with freshly harvested mango fruits were found to be between 15.1°C and 23.4°C and relative humidity between 81.8% and 97.7%. Physiological weight loss and firmness assessments of the fruits were also conducted.

The present investigation is aimed at studying the effect of ethrel on the ripening of off-season fruits of Mangifera indica L. var. Neelum. The control fruits were kept in the laboratory naturally while the experimental fruits were treated with different concentrations of ethrel (100, 200 and 300 ppm). In control fruits, partial ripening led to incomplete metabolic changes, which did not alter the presence of sourness in the fruits. Hence, they were not fit to be eaten. On the other hand, the fruits treated with different concentrations (100, 200 and 300 ppm) of ethrel ripened on 13th day, 11th day and 9th day respectively after treatment. The colour changed from green greenish to yellow and the fruits were palatable in nature. The starch decreased during ripening, both in the treated and control fruits. On the other hand, the sugar, alpha-amylase, beta-amylase, activities increased. Among the different 100, 200 and 300 ppm ethrel treatments, the 200 ppm alone had the optimum effect on the ripening of off-season fruits of Mangifera indica L. var. Neelum.

A severe white rot decay of a very old mango (Mangifera indica L.) tree trunk was observed form Himachal Pradesh, a hilly state of north India. The initial of decaying symptoms were firstly noticed in 2010 which progressed with destructive tissue death of tree trunk. A spongy, sessile, bracket-fungus was found associated with the decay. Morphological and microscopic examination of the collected specimens confirmed the fungus as Phellinus gilvus (Schw.) Pat. Since, P. gilvus is a saprobic fungus having a wide host range worldwide and M. indica is one of the most attacked hosts in India. Therefore, the present report is an important addition to the existing knowledge which will be helpful in understanding the pathogen diversity and interaction with host.

The study was performed on 137 Y. enterocolitica strains belonging to various serological groups, including 75 O3 group strains isolated form human clinical material. The agglutination test on slides was carried out on this strains using Mangifera indica extract of own production. Agglutinating preparation obtained from the seeds of M. indica agglutinated Y. enterocolitica organisms possessing the pVY plasmid and CRMOX+ phenotype in dilutions to 1,56 µm/ml. In identification tests conducted paralelly agglutination solution was used in concentrations of 100 and 10 µm/ml. All clones of Y. enterocolitica from 03 group from cultures at 37°C and with CRMOX+ phenotype possessing the pVY plasmid were agglutinated by the extract. Agglutination failed to develop in the cultures of these clones incubated at 25°C. Yersinia clones not containing the pVY plasmid with CRMOX" phenotype were resistant to agglutination. The virulence plasmid was found in 44 out of 75 strains of Y. enterocolitica O3 and was identified by restriction analysis after plasmid DNA digestion with Eco RI enzyme. The obtained results agreed with those of Wauters et al. in 1995 and confirmed the opinion of these authors on the usefulness of the test with M. indica agglutinin for the identification of virulent Y. enterocolitica strains.

Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is a highly popular tropical fruit. One of the factors causing the low production of mango is fruit drop. Many factors cause fruit drop, one of them being a phytohormonal imbalance. The objective of this research was to compare the content of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), 1-amino cyclopropane-1- carboxylic acid (ACC), and carbohydrate between persistent and pre-abscission fruits of two cultivars Gadung 21 and Lalijiwo. Pre-abscission fruit had lower IAA and total sugar, but higher ACC and starch than persistent fruit for both cultivars.

Mango jest jednym z najbardziej popularnych owoców tropikalnych. Jednym z czynników wpływających na obniżenie jego produkcji jest opadanie owoców, które spowodowane jest między innymi zaburzeniem równowagi fitohormonalnej. Badaniami objęto dwie odmiany - Gadung 21 i Lalijiwo. Celem ich było określenie zawartości kwasów indolilo-3-octowego (IAA) i 1-amino cyklopropano-1-karboksylowego (ACC) oraz węglowodanów w owocach mocno trzymających się drzewa i przed opadaniem. W przypadku obydwu odmian owoce przed opadaniem miały niższą zawartość IAA i cukru, natomiast wyższą zawartość ACC i skrobi niż owoce we wcześniejszym stadium rozwoju.

The agricultural based economy is a core business in Thailand and food export is one of the main sources of income for the Thai population. However, pesticides are overused and misused. As a result there is an urgent need to reduce the use of synthetic chemicals. Biological control offers an alternative to the use of pesticides. Mango (Mangifera indica L.) is widely planted in Thailand and is one of the major cash crops for international export. However, mango suffers from various diseases especially anthracnose, a fungal disease caused by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. One hundred and twelve isolates of epiphytic microbes were isolated from healthy leaves and fruits of mangoes; this included 93 and 19 isolates of epiphytic bacteria and yeasts, respectively. They were screened for bioactivity against a pathogenic strain of C. gloeosporioides isolated from diseased mangoes using a dual culture technique. Out of 112 isolates, eight isolates exhibited at least 60% inhibition. These isolates were further screened for their inhibition on mango using fruit inoculation. Two isolates reduced the lesion sizes caused by C. gloeosporioides compared to control treatment. These two isolates, based on phenotypical and biochemical tests, were identified as Bacillus sp. MB61 and Bacillus sp. LB72.

The antioxidant and antiproliferative properties of mango by-products were investigated. This study was carried out to evaluate the protective role of mango peel or kernel defatted extracts against Pb-acetate adverse effects on oxidant/antioxidant status, liver dysfunction biomarkers, histopathological changes and genotoxicity in male mice. Total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of both extracts were evaluated. Two doses of both extracts (50 and 100 mg/kg) were used to evaluate their role against the toxicity of Pb-acetate (500 ppm). Mice given mango extracts with Pb-acetate had signifi cantly lower plasma MDA, AST and ALT and higher glutathione than mice given Pb-acetate alone. Mango extracts prevented the histopathological changes in liver induced by Pb-acetate and decreased the cytotoxicity of lead by increasing the ratio of PCE/NCE. Mango extract treatment reduced the DNA damage induced by Pb-acetate in liver as demonstrated by a reduction in micronuclei and decrease in tail length, tail DNA% and Olive tail moment. It can be concluded that mango by-product extracts have potential to protect from oxidative stress and genotoxicity of lead.

The present invention was undertaken to study and determine the effect of potassium metabisulphite (6%) and potassium sorbate (350 ppm) treatments on the nutritional quality of osmotically-dehydrated, infrared- and microwave-blanched dried mango slices (local cultivars “Chaunsa” and “Fajri”) stored for the period of 6 months under ambient conditions. The studied parameters included physical characteristics such as water activity, non-enzymatic browning, and color values, chemical parameters such as moisture, ash, fi ber, acidity and content of proteins, sugars, vitamin C, total carotenoids, and sensory attributes such as appearance, fl avor and texture. Vitamin C content in osmotically-dried mango slices was higher than that of IR and MW blanched dried mango slices but the content of vitamin C of both cultivars was lower than of the fresh mango samples (Chaunsa: 135 mg/100 g, Fajri: 94 mg/100 g). Signifi cant loss was noticed in total carotenoids content of both the cultivars with passage of time because of their susceptibility to oxidative loss caused by dry heat. No growth of yeast and mold was detected in potassium sorbate-treated dried mango slices due to their preservative effect. From the point of view of the composition and sensory quality, dried mango slices of both the cultivars have excellent nutritional qualities.
