The aim of the article is to present the differences in the classifications of interjections in Polish and German linguistics. In the first part of the article classifications based on morphological, syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic criteria are discussed. The examples of interjections in the classifications are given. In the second part similarities and differences in the attempts to classify interjections as parts of speech in Polish and German are described. Special focus of this part is put on the inclusion of interjections into the category of particles. Practical implications of acknowledging different classifications are suggested.
