Preventing and combatting gender-based violence in Czechia – a success story?

Domestic violence and other forms of gender-based violence remain a serious problem of Czech society. In Czechia, there is no definition of violence against women or gender-based violence against women, nor ‘gender’ enshrined in law or established in judicial practice. Similarly, no legislation, nor jurisprudence, acknowledges gender-based violence as a form of discrimination or violation of the principle of equality. The paper focuses on gender-based violence in the Czech Republic. It aims at mapping the current situation, identifying weaknesses in legislation as well as in practice and proposing some effective steps for the future. This paper aims at providing a broader view on the state of affairs in the field of gender based violence in order to keep the debate on this very important but neglected topic, alive. This paper draws a conclusion that in Czechia, a structural change is needed. Not only solid and robust legislation aimed at better protection of victims of gender-based violence should be adopted but also a change of mindset in the legal practice and judiciary should occur. EU law with some proposed changes could help a lot to make the abovementioned changes possible.

Currently, three billion people face dangerous levels of air pollution and rely on non-renewable energy sources for cooking and heating. Due to its environmental impact, the construction sector is a particularly important area for implementing sustainable development policies. On July 10, 2023, the UN published The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2023 (SDGs). In accordance with the provisions of Goal 7 (which was discussed in the above document), the international community should increase its share of renewable energy sources in the global energy mix and promote investment in clean energy technologies by 2030. Achieving this goal necessitates the introduction of support mechanisms to enhance the energy efficiency of residential buildings. Hence, this study aims to showcase the legal and financial tools that aid the growth of energy-efficient construction in Poland, to compare the renovation costs of an existing residential building in order to meet energy-efficiency standards, and to detail the financial support that is available for planned thermal-modernization efforts.

W artykule, podzielonym na dwie części, omówiono zagadnienie oceny jakości energii elektrycznej w systemach wydzielonych na przykładzie sieci okrętowych. Część pierwsza poświęcona jest zdefiniowaniu tematyki objętej rozważaniami oraz przedstawieniem parametrów i narzędzi prawnych oceny. Część druga dedykowana jest problematyce metod oceny i odnośnego instrumentarium pomiarowego.

In the paper, divided into two parts, a problem of electric power quality assessment in the isolated systems based on the case of ship networks is discussed. Part I is devoted for defining the subject under consideration and presentation of the parameters and legal instruments of the assessment. The second part (Part II) is dedicated to the problems of the methods and related measurement instrumentation.

W artykule dokonano szczegółowego przeglądu instrumentów prawnych dotyczących sektora budownictwa energooszczędnego w Unii Europejskiej i stanu ich wdrożenia w prawie polskim. Omówiono też konsekwencje wprowadzonych przepisów prawa w zakresie budownictwa energooszczędnego dla inwestorów, projektantów i firm związanych z sektorem budowlanym. Unia Europejska, a w tym i Polska, dotychczas nie wprowadziła jednak pełnych i kompleksowych uregulowań prawnych odnoszących się wyłącznie do budownictwa energooszczędnego. Wskazano również instrumenty ekonomiczne wspierające budownictwo energooszczędne w Polsce.

In this paper you can find a detailed analysis of legal regulations concerning energy-efficient building industry sector in the European Union and their implementation into the Polish legal system. We have also discussed the consequences of the legal regulations introduced in the energy-efficient building industry area, which might be useful for investors, designers and companies from construction industry. However, the European Union, including Poland, has not introduced any legal regulations exclusively regarding energy-efficient building industry. The article presents other ways of supporting the energy-efficient building industry in Poland.
