During the Second World War, the Polish Library in Paris was occupied by the Germans. The most valuable part of its collections had been hidden in the south of France. In order to fully secure its collections, it had been postulated to evacuate it to the United States. It was much helped by the Polish government-in-exile and aimed at the preservation of the Library`s independence.
