The Geoinformation Systems (SIG) have a lot of essential applications, for example in building and keeping spatial and ecological order, satisfying citizen’s and institutions’ needs for information, in crisis managing supporting. To use it fully, it is necessary to develop the appropriate infrastructure of spatial data aside from building spatial databases. The author describes the undertaking in the range of building up the National Geographic Information System (KSIG) as a national register, created on three levels: national, provincial and a lower Polish administrative unit. Presented assumptions concern building and leading the National Geographic Information System, they will be run in a decree to a new act “Geodesy and Cartography Law" and they will make the interpretation of law in this range.

Artykuł przedstawia analizę możliwości wykorzystania danych Państwowego Zasobu Geodezyjnego i Kartograficznego oraz pewnych danych gromadzonych w urzędach miast i gmin jako podstawy tworzenia szczegółowych systemów informacji przestrzennej. Zwraca uwagę na specyficzne oczekiwania grupy zawodowej geodetów w stosunku do treści i funkcjonalności systemów udostępniających dane w Internecie. Pokazuje również, że odpowiednio zbudowany system lokalny bazujący na danych PODGiK i jednocześnie oferujący serwisy WMS/WFS może być idealnym źródłem danych do krajowej infrastruktury danych przestrzennych.

The possibility to utilise data from the State Geodetic and Cartographic Resource together with that accumulated by municipal authorities, as the grounds for creating detailed spatial information systems, has been studied. Attention is drawn to specific expectations of geodetic communities as to the contents and functionality of systems providing data in the Internet. It has been also demonstrated that a properly constructed local system based on the PODGiK data, at the same time offering the WMS/WFS services, can be an ideal data source for the national spatial data infrastructure.
