In this study, we explore a new application of thermoacoustic tomography (TAT) for imaging human finger joints and bones. Three volunteers’ finger joints and bones were visualized with satisfying image contrast and spatial resolution by a TAT scanner. The recovered TAT images revealed apparent microwave absorption differences between the joint cavity and bone. Beyond the full single finger imaging, a volunteer’s four fingers were clearly and concurrently imaged. To confirm our observations, MRI images of two volunteers’ fingers were performed, and the TAT recovered shape/size of the fingers were consistent with the MRI findings. To further assess the feasibility of TAT for finger joint and bone imaging, we quantitatively calculated the conductivity of a case. This initial study suggests that TAT may be a good candidate for screening, diagnosing, and monitoring treatment of joint and bone diseases.

Najciekawsza jednak jest kładka wzniesiona w doku dawnego portu podwieszona na pochylonym pylonie. W Rio de Janeiro na uwagę zasługuje stary akwedukt Łapa i nowy most przez zatokę Guanabara o długości ponad 13 km.

There are many bridges in Buenos Aires but repeated pedestrian bridges constructed in the form of concrete dome focuses particular attention. However, pedestrian bridge built in dock of former harbor as a structure suspended on inclined pylon is most interesting.

Przedstawiono problematykę medycznego pomiaru zakresu ruchomości stawów pacjenta. Zaproponowano autorski program pomiarowy sprzężony z elektronicznym akcelerometrem, funkcjonującym jako czujnik ruchu. Stwierdzono, że ten prototypowy system umożliwia bardzo szybki pomiar zakresu ruchu w interaktywnej procedurze dialogu z lekarzem, bez konieczności wprowadzania wyników z klawiatury komputera.

The study presents the practically problems of the medical joint motion measurement. In replay to discussion problems we are propose the copyright computer program with accelerometer connected. This equipment give the possibility of the quickly measurement of the joint motion in the dialog with doctor interactive procedure without necessity of introduce the results by keyboard.

Przedstawiono zasadę kształtowania złącza prasowaniem na zimno wraz z podaniem przykładowego rozkładu mikrotwardości w strefie złącza wynikającego ze zmiany struktury materiału. Omówiono praktyczne zastosowanie opracowanej przez Autorów technologii w zastosowaniu do konstrukcji podestów budowlanych. Przedstawiono konstrukcję podestów, zastosowanie na wybrane elementy wyżej wymienionych połączeń, oraz badania stanowiskowe wytrzymałości podestów. Dokonano rownież analizy ekonomicznej proponowanej metody łączenia w stosunku do dotychczas stosowanej technologii spawania.

The principle of forming a joint by cold pressing is presented, along with providing an example of microhardness distribution within the joint zone resulting from the material structure change. The practical implementation of the technology developed by the Authors in building platform construction application is discussed. The design of platforms, the use of the above-mentioned joints for selected elements, and platform strength stand tests are presented. An economic analysis of the proposed joining method as compared to the presently used welding technology has also been carried out.

The contribution deals with joining of materials and creating of bushings from aluminium materials, with using of new joining technology by thermal drilling, it means by Flowdrill method. This method is using at joining of materials such as sheets, pipes, hollow profile, where the thickness of material does not allow to make the drilling with enough number of threads. Also we can compare this thermal drilling technology with production of smooth cylindrical and conical bushings by forming technologies as hole burnishing. This paper was made with cooperation with firm Commerc Service spol.s.r.o., Presov.

W artykule przedstawiono analizę wyników badań stanu technicznego konstrukcji budynków wielkopłytowych, na przykładach 10 budynków, wybudowanych według systemu W-70. Zasadnicze uszkodzenia występują w złączach ich ścian zewnętrznych. W wyniku analizy struktury uszkodzeń zaproponowano niezbędne naprawy i wzmocnienia, które winny być wykonane przed dociepleniem ścian zewnętrznych, stanowiących jeden z elementów termomodernizacji budynków wielkopłytowych. Wyniki przedstawionych analiz wskazują potrzebę przeprowadzania specjalistycznych badań stanu technicznego tych budynków przed ich termomodernizacją. Badania te winny obejmować nie tylko stan zachowania warstwy fakturowej ścian osłonowych, jak to przewidują Instrukcje ITB nr 334/96 i nr 360/99, ale również stan techniczny ich warstwy nośnej oraz złączy.

The paper presents an analysis of research results of technical state for large-panel building structures carried out on the example of 10 buildings erected according to W-70 system. The main damages occurred in the joints of external walls of the buildings. As a result of conducted analysis for the structure of damages, necessary repair and strengthening is proposed which has to be executed before improving thermal insulation of external walls, constituting one of the elements of thermal modernisation of large-panel buildings. The results of the presented research point out the need for carrying out special inspection of the technical state of these buildings before their thermal modernisation is carried out. These examinations should cover not only the state of the surface layer of shielding walls, which is recommended by ITB Instructions No. 334/96 and No. 360/99, but also the technical state of their load-bearing layer and joints.

Knuckle pads are rare harmless subcutaneous nodules that must be differentiated from joint disease of the proximal interphalangeal or rarely of the metacarpophalangeal joints as well as from other masses of the paraarticular tissues. We present a case of an otherwise healthy 36-year-old woman presenting with bilateral knuckle pads located at the dorsal aspect of the proximal interphalangeal joints. No predisposition to a specific musculoskeletal disorder was noted. Ultrasound revealed well-delimited subcutaneous hypoechoic masses without internal flow signals at color Doppler. Histology showed proliferation of myofibroblasts with a decrease of elastic filaments in the deep dermis. The clinical picture, the family history in addition to the histology allowed us to make the diagnosis of knuckle pads. We present the ultrasound findings of knuckle pads and discuss the differential diagnosis of a “swelling” in the dorsal region of proximal interphalangeal joints and metacarpophalangeal joints.

Palce poduszeczkowate (knuckle pads), potocznie zwane guzkami kłykciowymi, są rzadkimi i łagodnymi zmianami podskórnymi, które należy różnicować z chorobą stawu międzypaliczkowego bliższego i, rzadziej, stawu śródręczno‑paliczkowego,a także z innymi masami/zmianami okołostawowymi. Prezentujemy przypadek 36‑letniej zdrowej kobiety, u której stwierdzono obustronne guzki zlokalizowane po stronie grzbietowej stawów międzypaliczkowych bliższych. Badanie ultrasonograficzne wykazało wyraźnie odgraniczone, hipoechogeniczne guzki zlokalizowane podskórnie, bez cech obecności nieprawidłowego unaczynienia w badaniu kolorowym dopplerem. W badaniu histopatologicznym ujawniono proliferację miofibroblastów oraz zmniejszenie liczby włókien elastycznych w głębokich warstwach skóry właściwej. Obraz kliniczny, wywiad rodzinny oraz badania histologiczne pomogły w ustaleniu rozpoznania. W artykule przedstawiamy ultrasonograficzny obraz palców poduszeczkowatych oraz diagnostykę różnicową pogrubienia tkanek miękkich okolicy grzbietowej stawów międzypaliczkowego bliższego i śródręczno‑paliczkowego.
