The problem of global and local stability in the elasto-plastic range for thin-walled columns is examined on the basis of the incremental theory of plasticity using Hill's Yield Criterion. Columns of closed and open cross-sections built from rectangular orthotropic plates are subjected to the axial compression. A solution of elastic buckling for a thin-walled orthotropic columns based on Koiter's asymptotic method is employed to investigate the elasto-plastic buckling mode of the column and to determine its buckling load. The study is based on the numerical method of the transition matrix. The results of numerical calculations are presented in diagrams.

W artykule omówiono dydaktyczny sposób ułatwiający rozumienie zjawiska wyboczenia prętów polegający na wizualizacji treści teoretycznych rysunkami i fotografiami. Z uwagi na różne predyspozycje psychiczne i zdolności percepcji studentów, treści teoretyczne zapisane wzorami matematycznymi i ich obrazy powinny być przekazywane razem. Jednak we w współczesnej rzeczywistości obraz bardziej oddziałuje na umysł, niż wzór - stąd ważność podniesionego tematu. Przedstawiono obrazy obejmujące wyboczenie sprężyste i niesprężyste prętów litych oraz wyboczenie prętów cienkościennych. Zamieszczono poglądowo na ilustracjach prętów litych ściskanych modele ciała sprężystego, plastycznego i lepkiego celem przedstawienia różnych deformacji, które mogą wystąpić.

The didactic way that facilitates understanding of the rod buckling phenomenon including visualization of theoretical content by drawings and photographs is discusses in the article. Taking into account different psychological predispositions and abilities of students perception the theoretical content written by mathematical formulas should be provided together with the respective images. We need to agree that actually image affects the mind much more than the formula - hence the significant validity of the subject under question. Images covering a buckling of elastic and inelastic solid bars as well as buckling of thin-walled bars are presented in the paper. To present different kinds of rod deformations, that may occur during buckling, illustrations of different elastic, plastic viscous as well as internal dry friction models of compressed elements are discussed herein.

Przedstawiono analizę szacowania korozyjnych strat nośności prętów ściskanych ze stali S235JR po ich skorodowaniu w komorze mgły solnej. Względne zmniejszenie nośności próbek wyznaczono na podstawie: wyników badań wytrzymałościowych, wyników badań korozyjnych, średniej szybkości korozji i obliczeń.

The paper presents an analysis of the estimation of the corrosion losses of the bearing capacity of S235JR steel compression bars after corrosion in the salt spray chamber. The relative decrease in the load capacity of the samples was determined on the basis of: strength test results, corrosion test results, average corrosion rate and calculations.

W artykule zaproponowano metodę doboru najbardziej odpowiedniego modelu ściskanego zbrojenia podłużnego, uwzględniającego możliwość jego niesprężystego wyboczenia w zależności od sposobu obciążenia elementów żelbetowych. Polega ona na modyfikacji dostępnych modeli zbrojenia wynikającej z warunków pracy prętów w elementach żelbetowych.

This paper proposes a method of choosing the most adequate compression model for longitudinal reinforcement including the possibility of their inelastic buckling in relation to the way in which load is applied to reinforced concrete elements. The method consists in modifying the available models of reinforcement according to the conditions in which it works in reinforced concrete elements.
