The main purpose of this study is to analyse a Spanish inchoative verbal periphrasis empezar a + infinitive and to compare it with its corresponding Polish equivalents. We examine this unit in terms of comparative method of translation study: we search for Spanish units, their Polish equivalents and describe them through the concepts of the theory of translation with the objective to present some comparative observations. In most cases we observe the exact equivalents or the reduction of the structure and confirm that there are no verbal periphrases in Polish.
