The article applies representations of mobility and immobility in Miasto Archipelag written by Filip Springer. The book is record of a reporter’s trip to the polish former provincial cities. The issue of displacement is considered in three perspectives: move as a narrative dominant; as deterritorialization and reterritorialization of place and as domain of urban activity.

This article examines the mobility patterns in East–West movement within Europe and challenges the prevailing perception that migration is an act of agency while staying put is seen as having a lack of agency. It argues that staying put can also involve extensive strategies and should be recognised as an active choice. The article utilises Bourdieu’s three types of capital (economic, social and cultural) to understand the strategies employed in both staying put and successful migration. It suggests that individuals can compensate for the absence of one type of capital by leveraging another type; however, it also suggests that, in order to understand mobility space between CEE and Nordic countries, the presence of formalised welfare provision in Nordic countries is an important aspect. The focus of the article is on single mothers, who are considered to be one of the most vulnerable groups in Central and Eastern European societies. Based on 25 interviews with Estonian single mothers, the article suggests that migration often occurs due to a lack of alternative options.

This paper reports results of studies on the effects of interaction between heavy metal ions (Hg2+, Cd2+, Ni2+ and Cu2+) on the degree of desulfurication taking place using Desulfotomaculum ruminis bacteria. It has been found that mutual interaction of heavy metal ions can bring either antagonistic or synergetic effects. For instance, the toxic effect of Hg2ł ions on the process of desulfurication is minimized after the introduction of Cd2+ ions (antagonism). In other cases interaction of the metal ions studied has led to synergetic inhibition. The concentration ranges of metal ions in which they show the inhibiting effect or act as antagonists have been determined.

The images of lakes and rivers situated in Suwałki, Warmia and Mazurian Regions in the poetry by Leszek A. Moczulski and Zbigniew Chojnowski are constructed on the basis of the space categories related to mobility, immobility, symmetry and asymmetry. A canoe trip, which evokes the aforementioned categories, becomes a metaphor of life or subject’s condition. The properties of lakes/rivers and their activity in the aquatic imagination of authors combine with the issue of individual and collective memory/ oblivion, religious experience, anthropology and history of lands described in the poems. Especially in the poetry of Zbigniew Chojnowski, the lake is the centre of life formation (also an ontogenetic metaphor), the lake’s rhythm determines the subject’s existence. In the poems, the element of water favours also the sexualisation of poetical images.
