The river bed stability analysis at the Wkra estuary reach is presented in this paper. When a flood appears, channel and river bed erosion can reach a significant size. During such a situation, flow and water velocity exceed critical values for particular bed sediment grain sizes. This causes the breakage of bed armouring, and then bed mass motion begins. For the estimation of the sandy Wkra River bed the criteria of average velocity and bed armouring were applied with the use of ARMOUR software. The two Wkra River cross-sections at km 1+000 and km 3+200 distance were analysed. The calculation of the characteristics of bed sediment velocities was performed on the basis of, among other factors, probable river flow data, longitudinal slope, and grain size distribution of the bed. The results of the calculations were compared with average velocities in the analysed cross-sections. The results indicate the there is a threat to the stability of the Wkra River bed, especially during long-lasting high water stages. The prognosis of river bed stability loss performed by use of ARMOUR software shows that the bed armour breakage will take place in both considered cross-sections at relatively low water stages (about 40 cm), and mass motion of bed sediments in cross-section P-2 will occur at a flow of slightly lower than Q50% ,and in cross-section P-1 at flows greater then Q0,3%.

Obowiązujące w Polsce prawo wodne wprowadza wymóg waloryzacji stanu i poprawy jakości wód. Ocenę stanu wód wykonuje się głównie na podstawie parametrów biotycznych i fizykochemicznych. Pytanie o jakość parametrów hydromorfologicznych nie pojawia się, gdy stan wód płynących jest bardzo dobry, a kiedy jest dobry i średni, ich wynik powinien być zgodny z pozostałymi waloryzacjami. Tego typu podejście nastawione jest na ocenę skutków i nie odpowiada na pytanie o przyczyny postawienia dobrej oceny danemu odcinkowi rzeki. Nie można w takiej sytuacji określić trwałości istniejącego ekosystemu ani tendencji, jakim może on podlegać w przyszłości. Ważnym elementem waloryzacji hydromorfologicznej jest określenie intensywności procesów fluwialnych w korycie rzeki oraz możliwej dynamiki ich zmian. Presje hydromorfologiczne powodują zaburzenia równowagi hydrodynamicznej objawiające się zmianami typu koryta, jego wcięciem oraz zmianą składu granulometrycznego uziarnienia dna. W artykule podjęto próbę waloryzacji procesów fluwialnych. Jej wynik może być zastosowany do dokładnej oceny aktualnej jakości i możliwych zmian w korytach rzek górskich.

The current Polish Water Law requires adjustment and improvement of water quality. The assessment of the status of water is carried out mainly on the basis of biotic, physical and chemical parameters. Question about the quality of hydromorphological parameters does not appear when the state of flowing water is very good, and when it is good and average the result should be consistent with the other valorization. This approach is aimed at evaluating the effects and does not respond to the questions about reasons why good judgment is given for considered reach of the river. The current evaluation doesn’t indicate the stability of the ecosystem or trends the developing the future state. Do not be in such a situation, the useful life of the existing ecosystem or trends which may be in the future. An important element of the valuation is to determine the intensity of fluvial processes in the riverbed, and the possible dynamics of their changes. Hydromorphological pressures cause disturbances of hydrodynamic balance manifested by changes of the channel types, the channel incision and change the composition of the grain size distribution of the bed surface. This article attempts to indexation fluvial processes. The result can be used to accurately assess the current quality and possible changes in the mountain river beds.
