Celem pracy była ocena odporności na korozję wżerową drutów stosowanych w zabiegach endourologicznych. Badania przeprowadzono na próbkach drutu ze stali nierdzewnych typu Cr-Ni-Mo. Pomiary realizowano w roztworze sztucznego moczu z wykorzystaniem systemu do badań elektrochemicznych VoltaLabŽPGP201. Ustalono wpływ odkształcenia zadawanego w procesie ciągnienia drutu na odporność na korozję elektrochemiczną.

The aim of the study was evaluation of pitting corrosion resistance of wires used in endourologic treatment. The test were carried out on sample wire made of Cr-Ni-Mo stainless steel. Corrosion resistance tests were performed in artificial urine solution with the use ofVoltaLabŽ PGP201 system for electrochemical tests. This paper presents influence of strain caused by wire drawing on electrochemical corrosion resistance of wire.

The guidewire is a flexible medical device, which subserves the navigation and positioning of devices for angiography and angioplasty. In our study we present a method for the determination of guidewires' bending stiffness and flexibility (reciprocal of the bending stiffness) improved by our research group. With this method the flexibility can be detachedly defined, it is quantitative and by this new technique different guidewires can be compared. We characterized the bending stiffness, which value does not change at the first 15 mm of the guidewires’ distal end (this part is inserted into the patient). The deflection of guidewires was performed by a tensile test machine. We examined three guidewires. As for the reliability of our method, we drew conclusions from the coefficients of variation. Our three coefficients were between 0.8-0.13 so our methodology is reliable; it is suitable for the objective determination and comparative analysis of the flexibility of guidewires.

Guide wires with suitable functional characteristics are of crucial importance for proper urological treatment. This study presents an analysis of the effect of work hardening taking place in the process of wire cold drawing and the effect of surface modification by means of electrochemical polishing and chemical passivation on the resistance of wires made of X10CrNi18-8 steel used in urology. Corrosion resistance was evaluated on the grounds of the registered anodic polarisation curves by means of potentiodynamic method. The tests were made in solution simulating human urine. Anodic polarisation curves were presented for selected wire diameters. Mechanical properties were tested in a static uniaxial tensile test. The course of flow curve as well as mathematical form of flow stress function were determined. Curves presenting the relation of polarisation resistance as a function of strain applied in the drawing process are given. The tests carried out show that surface modification by means of electrochemical polishing and then chemical passivation of wires used in endourological treatment is fundamental.
