The paper aims to analytically present the existing data and information regarding notable aspects of the ongoing war in Ukraine, notably through lessons identified in the political-military field, both conventionally and hybrid. The article hypothesis starts from the consideration that even the war is not over, there are some lessons identified that should be considered for the future security of Europe and the international environment. The author uses the analytical method of research to explain the cause-effect relationship between the war itself and its future influence for the European security and world order, going down to European nations living at the edge of this conflict. It will also theoretically test those implications to determine whether they fit the specified hypothesis. The conflict itself has deepened the international consequences of almost two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. It magnified the disastrous security situation not only in Europe, but all around the world, by creating additional energy (gas) and food (cereal) crises. Therefore, the Russian – Ukrainian War has significantly modified regional and international security environment and there are tendencies to challenge the current World order. What happened in Ukraine in the past year has and will continue to have direct implications for the European and Euro-Atlantic security, going down to European nations living at the edge of this conflict. Therefore, this paper is significant for advising the political-military decision-makers on better understanding the modern operational environment and addapting future defence capabilities to face 21st Century Warfare.

This paper analyzes Israel's changing understanding of its geostrategic posture from its establishment in 1948 to the current era. It starts by reviewing traditional Israeli geostrategic ideas and their implementation, mostly, as reflected in the nation's national security doctrine. The paper then investigates the efect of Israel's territorial expansion after 1967 on Israeli ideas about geostrategy. Finally, the paper shows how changing global, regional, and technological variables in the last two decades have transformed how Israeli elites understand their geostrategic realities and how they allocate resources in response to these changing conditions.

Po upływie stulecia od pojawienia się pojęcia geopolityka przeżywa ona swoisty renesans. Z drugiej strony nie brakuje opinii podważających jej naukowy status. Pretekstem do przyjęcia takiego stanowiska jest panujący w geopolityce chaos terminologiczny, przypisywany jej polityczny darwinizm, geograficzny determinizm, związki z ideologią nazistowską, wielość różnorodnych kierunków i doktryn, oraz słabość metodologiczna. Geopolityka współczesna przypomina więc biblijną wieżę Babel. Artykuł stanowi próbę wskazania drogi do sformułowania podstaw metodologicznych geopolityki, sprecyzowania jej definicji, określenia jej relacji z geostrategią i geoekonomią, oraz wskazania miejsca geopolityki w schemacie klasyfikacyjnym dyscyplin naukowych.

In the beginning of 21st century, after one hundred years since the invention of the term by Rudolf Kjellen, geopolitics is currently used in many publications and has its own “renaissance”. But some of modern researchers have an objection about scientific status of geopolitics. They accuse definitional chaos, political darwinism, geographical determinism, relationships with Nazism, split to classical and postmodern geopolitics, many various doctrines and a lack of methodology to present geopolitical studies. It is like an attempt to build a modern type of biblical Babel Tower. The article is a trial to search a basement for scientific status of geopolitics. We can determine a short definition of geopolitics (as a “global politics”) based on Aristotle’s classification (first section), to explain a parallel evolution of geopolitics and globalization (second section), to determine geopolitical relationships with geostrategy and geoeconomy (“geopolitical triade”, third section) and finally place geopolitics in the modern classification of science and take an outline to geopolitical methodology (fourth section). Geopolitics is still growing and it may be one of basic sciences in 21st century. „Geopolitical Babel Tower” is to be replaced by „Geopolitical Triada” with a solid methodological foundation.

The article attempts to portray the geopolitical paradigm to define its role in the contemporary discourse on international relations. The topic seems important because for about 30 years we have been dealing with the return of geopolitics to scientific, expert, political, media, and civic debate. This is happening both in Poland and in the world discourse. The text shows the genesis of geopolitical reflection and discusses its main trends: classical geopolitics, critical geopolitics and geoeconomics. The author tries to assess the condition of contemporary geopolitics as a paradigm of international studies and define the levels of possible integration of this field of knowledge in Poland.

Artykuł stanowi próbę sportretowania paradygmatu geopolitycznego w celu zdefiniowania jego roli we współczesnym dyskursie nad stosunkami międzynarodowymi. Temat wydaje się ważny, ponieważ od około 30 lat mamy do czynienia z powrotem geopolityki do debaty naukowej, eksperckiej, politycznej, medialnej i obywatelskiej. Dzieje się to zarówno w Polsce, jak i w dyskursie światowym. Tekst ukazuje genezę refleksji geopolitycznej oraz omawia główne jej nurty: geopolitykę klasyczną, geopolitykę krytyczną oraz geoekonomię. Autor stara się ocenić kondycję współczesnej geopolityki jako paradygmatu stosunków międzynarodowych i określić płaszczyzny integracji tej dziedziny wiedzy w Polsce.

Geopolitics is a relatively new scientific discipline that studies the relationship between the geographical and historical factors influencing the formation and functioning of the states (centres of power). The aim of this paper is to present geopolitical and geostrategic determinants of Macedonia. The author examines the question: Does the territory of Macedonia have the character of destabilizing the political situation in the Balkans, by typing in the paradigm of Balkan instability? The author has relied on the analysis of the Balkan scientists, mostly Serbian and Greek. It is essential to mention: Andrej Mitrović, MiloljubSretenović, MilenkoTešić, Radovan Pavić, Slavoljub B. Šušić, Alexander Demajo and Greek balkanist – Dimitri Poulakos. The author depictsthe geopolitical significance of Macedonia throughout the ages, and geostrategic importance of Macedonia in order to conclude that contemporary Macedonia faces numerous problems of economic, ethnic, legal and international nature. However, it seems that the Albanian ethnic factor as well as bi‑ethnicity of Macedonia are the most unstable elements in the current geopolitical situation of this territory.

Polskę i Ukrainę łączy przeszło tysiącletnie sąsiedztwo oparte na podobnych doświadczeniach oraz złożonej historii. Oba kraje z racji położenia geograficznego znalazły się na styku rywalizacji mocarstw, tj. Stanów Zjednoczonych i Chin, które chcą rozszerzyć swoje wpływy na państwa naszego regionu. Dużego znaczenia nabiera w tej sytuacji polityka Federacji Rosyjskiej, która dzięki potencjałowi obszarowemu uzyskuje możliwość rewizji ładu światowego i kwestionowania pozycji Stanów Zjednoczonych. Realizacja koncepcji chińskiego Nowego Jedwabnego Szlaku może doprowadzić do zasadniczego przewartościowania i podważenia koncepcji światowego systemu potęg morskich w drodze zmiany „architektury handlu”, co będzie miało bezpośredni wpływ na bezpieczeństwo naszego regionu.

Poland and Ukraine have been joined over millennia based on similar experiences and a complex history. Both countries, due to their geographical location, have found themselves at the crossroads of great-power rivalry. The United States and China both want to expand their influence in the region. An important role in this situation is the policy of the Russian Federation which, thanks to the area's potential, has the opportunity to revise global governance and challenge the position of the United States. Implementation of the concept of the New Chinese Silk Road may lead to a fundamental re-evaluation and undermine the concept of a global system of maritime powers, by amending the "trade architecture", which will have a direct impact on the security of the region.

The range of the scientific problem of the chosen topic of the article determines the combination of methodological and integrative disciplinary approaches in order to solve it. The logic of the research involves the establishment of a mutual connection between the creation of geostrategy and the nurturing of the humanitarian aura of the nation. On the basis of L. Kostenko’s concept of the humanitarian aura of the nation, modern trends that influence the formation of modern geostrategy of Ukraine are analyzed, and strategic national priorities are outlined within the framework of the development of its political and legal model. The context of the work is imbued with the need to develop the state infrastructure policy, which is interpreted as the locomotive of sustainable development of Ukraine, the formation of the investment and innovation model of the state, on the basis of the implementation of the developed geostrategy. Contextually, the issues of strategic narrative in terms of noopolitics and deconstruction of destructive stereotypes, export and expansion of the Ukrainian cultural space are discussed.

Діапазон наукової проблеми обраної теми статті зумовлює об’єднання методологічних та інтеграційних дисциплінарних підходів з метою її розв’язання. Логіка дослідження передбачає встановлення взаємного зв’язку між творенням геостратегії та плеканням гуманітарної аури нації. На підставі концепції гуманітарної аури нації Л. Костенко аналізуються сучасні тенденції, які впливають на формування сучасної геостратегії України, а також в рамках розроблення її політико-правової моделі намічаються стратегічні національні пріоритети.
