Zainteresowania poszukiwaniami złóż soli w XIX w. Polsce wzrosły w związku z utratą kopalń w Wieliczce i w Bochni na rzecz Cesarstwa Austriackiego. Szukano nowych miejsc występowania soli, w tym na Ponidziu oraz w rejonie Siewierza. Tu działał nieudanie August Rost, który zakładał znalezienie triasowych złóż soli, podobnych do występujących w Niemczech. Później przyczynił się do rozpoznania permskiego złoża soli występującego w Ciechocinku.

Interest in the exploration of salt deposits in Poland in the nineteenth century increased due to the loss of mines in Wieliczka and Bochnia to the Austrian Empire. New places of salt occurrence were searched, including in Ponid and in the Siewierz region. August Rost's work, whose aim was to find Triassic salt deposits similar to those found in Germany, was unsuccessful. Later tho, he contributed to the recognition of the Permian salt deposit in Ciechocinek.

In modern realities, there is no unified methodology for the economic assessment of geological exploration in subsoil use. The main research question of this study was to develop a methodology for the new economic model formation for assessing geological exploration in the subsoil use for the mineral resource base rational use. The new methodology can facilitate the assessment of subsoil users of hydrocarbon reserves and resources and government bodies when putting resources and reserves on the balance sheet. In the course of the study, modeling, observation, description, and analysis methods were used. The result of the study was a new economic model for evaluating geological exploration in subsoil use. The main conclusions can be characterized by the optimization of the main indicators of the valuation of mineral raw materials. The basic principles for calculating discounted cash flow, discount rate, payback period and internal rate of return were developed.

Zasygnalizowano uwarunkowania historyczne i gospodarcze związane z przebiegiem poszukiwań oraz eksploatacją soli kamiennej do początków powstania II Rzeczpospolitej. Przedstawiono mniej znane dane o występowaniu, poszukiwaniu i eksploatacji soli na Niżu Polskim, głównie w Wielkopolsce, na Kujawach i częściowo na Pomorzu. Jedne z pierwszych wzmianek znajdują się w dziełach M. Kromera, a także G. Rzączyńskiego, K. Kluka, J.B. Puscha czy L. Zejsznera. Zaprezentowano ponadto rozwój poszukiwań złóż soli w Wielkim Księstwie Poznańskim, w którym udział brali m.in. A. Humboldt, A. Rost, M. Levy, B. Moszczyński. Wreszcie przedstawiono pierwsze opracowania polskich uczonych z okresu tworzenia się, po latach niewoli, państwa polskiego, głównie H. Arctowskiego, W. Friedberga, R. Rosłońskiego, B. Świderskiego.

Historical and economic conditionings connected with the course of exploration and exploitation of rock-salt to the beginnings of the origin of the II Republic of Poland were indicated. Lesser-known data related to the occurrence, exploration and exploitation of salt in the Polish Lowland, in the Kujawy region and partly in Pomerania were presented. One of the first references are mentioned in the works of M. Kromer, as well as G. Rzączyński, K. Kluk, J.B. Pusch and L. Zejszner. Moreover, the development of salt deposits exploration in the Grand Duchy of Poznań, in which participated among others A. Humboldt, A. Rost, M. Levy and B. Moszczyński, was described. Finally, the first studies of Polish scientists in the period of creation, after years of lack of independence of the Polish state, chiefly H. Arctowski, W. Friedberg, R. Rosłoński, and B. Świderski, were presented.
