W artykule przedstawiono stan wyposażenia nowoczesnych odlewni w maszyny odlewnicze. Szczególną uwag? zwrócono na urządzenia, których produkcję można uruchomić w Polsce. Byłyby one przeznaczone do przygotowywania materiałów i mas formierskich, jak również do produkcji form i rdzeni. Przeanalizowano także stan badań w zakresie odlewnictwa prowadzonych w krajowych ośrodkach uczelnianych. Przedstawione wnioski wskazują na najbardziej istotne wymagania, które powinny być spełnione w celu stworzenia dobrych podstaw do perspektywicznego rozwoju polskiego przemysłu odlewniczego.

In the article the foundry equipment destinated for modern foundries according to actual technical level was described. The special attention was focused on equipment for foundry material treatment, and green sand preparation as well as on machines adopted for mould and core manufacturing which might be manufactured in Poland. The state of research supported foundry technology carried out at several polish university centers dealing with foundry sciences were also analyzed in the article. The conclusion regarded to the most important demands which have to be fulfilled for preparing good backgrounds for perspective development of Polish foundry industry.

Artykuł powstał na podstawie prezentacji pt.: "Odlewnictwo w Europie i na świecie", która została przedstawiona w Kocierzu, na VII Forum Prezesów i Dyrektorów Odlewni w Polsce. Autor dzieli się z Czytelnikami swoimi spostrzeżeniami dotyczącymi rozwoju wydarzeń na rynku światowym, a mającymi wpływ na gospodarkę Europy, a więc i Polski. Informacje zawarte w tym artykule dotyczą szczególnie branży odlewniczej. W pierwszej części artykułu zawarte zostały dane statystyczne dotyczące produkcji odlewniczej w Polsce, zarówno jej wzrostów jak i spadków, w porównaniu z krajami Europy i świata. W dalszej części pojawiają się prognozy i przewidywania dotyczące rozwoju gospodarki oraz przewidywania jej wzrostu i rozwoju w kolejnych latach. Autor dokonał również krótkiej analizy przewidywanych zachowań w gospodarce oraz wysunął na jej podstawie wnioski, co i w jaki sposób będzie miało bezpośredni wpływ na lokalizację produkcji odlewniczej, jej rozwój na danym terenie, gdzie powstaną nowe rynki zbytu, a także na jaką skalę możliwy będzie rozwój globalnej przedsiębiorczości.

The hereby paper is based on the Conference presentation entitled: "Foundry Engineering in Europe and in the World", at the VIIth Forum of Managers and Directors of Foundry Plants in Poland, which took place in Kocierz. The Author shares his observations - concerning a course of events in the world market having its influence on the European and Polish economy - with the Readers. Information included in the paper are mainly related to the foundry engineering branch. The statistic data concerning the foundry production in Poland - its ups and downs - in comparison with European and world countries are given in the first part of the paper. Further, in the paper, there are prognosis and expectations related to the economic development in subsequent years. The Author performed also a short analysis of the predicted behaviours in economy as well as drew, on these bases, conclusions what and in which way will have a direct influence on the localisation of the foundry production and its development in the given region. His conclusions also concern the places where the new sales markets will appear and what scale will presumably reach the development of global resourcefulness.

In this paper the calculations of the motion of solid-liquid interface and the time-dependent temperature field during solidification of a pure metal are presented. In order to solve the problem, the boundary element method is used. In the final part of the paper the simple example is presented.

The study outlines the basic features of a newly-designed computer-supported system for monitoring and recording the instantaneous power consumption, used to control the operating parameters of foundry machinery. Explored are potential applications of the module for fast recording of instantaneous currents and voltages in a triple phase power supply system in a paddle mixer. Further research areas are indicated, to extend the system and the range of its potential applications.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki prac prowadzonych w ostatnich latach w Zakładzie Odlewnictwa Politechniki Poznańskiej nad wybranymi zagadnieniami związanymi z wykorzystaniem złomu w odlewniach, a w szczególności złomu stalowego do wytwarzania żeliwa syntetycznego, recyklingu odlewów z kompozytów o osnowie metalowej oraz topienia wiórów w odlewniach stopów aluminium. Stwierdzono, że w badanych przypadkach przy niższych kosztach wytwarzania można otrzymać materiał odlewów nieustępujący jakością uzyskiwanemu z gąsek.

The paper presents the results of the work carried out in recent years in the Foundry Department of the Poznań University of Technology on selected problems pertaining to using of metal scrap in foundries. Particular attention was paid to the use of steel scrap for production of synthetic cast iron, recycling of metal matrix composites and possibility of chips melting in aluminum alloy foundries. Results of the research work have shown that in the considered cases the quality of the alloy materials was not worse than while using pig sows, however, with lower manufacturing cost.

Artykuł przedstawia kolejną już piętnastą edycję ważnych dla odlewnictwa polskiego, targów, na stałe wpisaną w jesienną ramówkę tej branży. W okresie 15 lat z niewielkiej wystawy branżowej przeobraziły się w liczącą się w Polsce i na świecie imprezę wystawienniczą. Z roku na rok uczestniczy w Targach coraz większa liczba zarówno wystawców jak i odwiedzających je potencjalnych klientów. Jak co roku, Targom towarzyszyły licznie odbywające się konferencje, seminaria i spotkania, podczas, których dokonywana jest wymiana doświadczeń zdobytych podczas całorocznej działalności branży. Przyjemnym finałem Targów jest spotkanie wystawców na uroczystej wieczornej GALI Targów Kielce, podczas której wręczone zostały dyplomy nagród i wyróżnień dla wyrobów eksponowanych w czasie trwania Targów.

The paper presents the consecutive, already the 15th edition of Fairs - important for the Polish foundry engineering - an inherent part of the autumn format of this sector. During 15 years they transformed from a small sector exhibition into the major exhibition event to be reckoned with not only in Poland but in the world. With the years, more and more exhibitors and their potential clients participate in the Fairs. As every year, the Fairs were accompanied by numerous conferences, seminars and meetings, during which experiences gained in the whole year operation of the sector were exchanged and shared. The pleasant final accent of the Kielce Fairs was the evening ceremonial GALA event, during which diploma of awards and distinctions for goods exhibited during the Fairs were presented.

In the study, a model and some fundamental relationships describing changes of gas pressure in the gas gap during manufacture of castings by the Lost Foam process were described. The mathematical description uses the equation of gas state and the equation of Darcy's rate of filtration. The equations describing changes of gas pressure in the gas gap and the kinetics of melting of a foamed polystyrene pattern as well as the dynamics of the process of mould filling with molten alloy were used in analysis of the effect of selected technological parameters on changes of gas pressure in the gas gap. The effect of foamed polystyrene pattern density and permeability, and of the protective coating thickness on changes of pressure in the gas gap were discussed.

The ablation casting technology consists in pouring castings in single-use moulds made from the mixture of sand and watersoluble binder. After pouring the mould with liquid metal, while the casting is still solidifying, the mould destruction (washing out, erosion) takes place using a stream of cooling medium, which in this case is water. The following paper focuses on the selection of moulding sands with hydrated sodium silicate technologies for moulds devoted to the ablation casting of aluminum alloys. It has been proposed to use different types of moulding sands with a water-soluble binder, which is hydrated sodium silicate. The authors showed that the best kind of moulding sands for moulds for Al alloy casting will be moulding sands hardened with physical factors – through dehydration. The use of microwave hardened moulding sands and moulding sands made in hot-box technology has been proposed. The tests were carried out on moulding sands with different types of modified binder and various inorganic additives. The paper compares viscosity of different binders used in the research and thermal degradation of moulding sands with tested binders. The paper analyzes the influence of hardening time periods on bending strength of moulding sands with hydrated sodium silicate prepared in hot-box technology. The analysis of literature data and own research have shown that molding sand with hydrated sodium silicate hardened by dehydration is characterized by sufficient strength properties for the ablation foundry of Al alloys.

The paper presents a research on the relation between thermal preparation of chromite sand base of moulding sands containing sodium silicate, hardened with selected physical and chemical methods, and structure of the created bonding bridges. Test specimens were prepared of chromite sand - fresh or baked at 950°C for 10 or 24 hours - mixed with 0.5 wt.% of the selected non-modified inorganic binder and, after forming, were hardened with CO2 or liquid esters, dried traditionally or heated with microwaves at 2.45 GHz. It was shown on the grounds of SEM observations that the time of baking the base sand and the hardening method significantly affect structure of the bonding bridges and are correlated with mechanical properties of the moulding sands. It was found that hardening chromite-based moulding mixtures with physical methods is much more favourable than hardening with chemical methods, guaranteeing also more than ten times higher mechanical properties.

In this study, the analysis of the influence of the pressure in mould on manufacture process of castings by the Lost Foam method was introduced. In particular, numerical simulation results of effect of pressure in mould on pouring rate, gas gap pressure and gas gap size were analyzed. For simulating investigations of the Lost Foam process introduced mathematical model of the process was used. In this model in detail was described and derived equation relating to the changes of the gas pressure in the gas gap. The mathematical description uses the equation of gas state and the equation of Darcy’s rate of filtration. Presented studies indicated, that with decrease of pressure in mould the pouring rate increased and the gas pressure in gas gap and gas gap size decreased. For pressures in mould from the range of 20÷100 kPa, pouring rates achieved values from 30÷3 cm/s respectively.

The article presents the process of commercial negotiations paying attention to the negotiation itself as well as to its basic elements. The specificity of the Polish foundries' main negotiation partners from The European Union, who are the deliverers of diverse casting range, was specified. The most important cultural factors, which determine the process of negotiations conducted by the representatives of various cultural groups, were analysed. The understanding of cultural differences and adapting to them while negotiating are important factors which constitute the parties' negotiation process. The meaning of price in the commercial negotiation process was described. The elements of sale process and the factors which influence the casts price were enumerated. What is more, the main methods of determining price were characterized. The essential problems connected with conducting the price negotiations in foundries were indicated.

The analysis of the influence of the thickness of refractory coating on the production process of casts in the Lost Foam process was introduced in the work. It was conducted in the peculiarity the analysis simulating investigations the influence the coating thickness on the pouring rate, pressure in the gas gap and gas gap size. For simulation tests of the Lost Foam process, a mathematical model presented in this study was used. For calculations, the author's own algorithm was applied. Investigations have proved that with increasing thickness of coating the pouring rate decreases, while pressure in the gas gap and the size of the gap are increasing. The author's own investigations have proved a very significant effect of the coating thickness on the Lost Foam process, and specially on the mould pouring rate.

The investigations have proved that with increasing pouring temperature the pouring rate increases, while pressure in the gas gap are decreasing. The author's own investigations showed a more significant effect of the silumin pouring temperature than grey cast iron pouring temperature on the lost foam process.

Casting industry has been enriched with the processes of mechanization and automation in production. They offer both better working standards, faster and more accurate production, but also have begun to generate new opportunities for new foundry defects. This work discusses the disadvantages of processes that can occur, to a limited extend, in the technologies associated with mould assembly and during the initial stages of pouring. These defects will be described in detail in the further part of the paper and are mainly related to the quality of foundry cores, therefore the discussion of these issues will mainly concern core moulding sands. Four different types of moulding mixtures were used in the research, representing the most popular chemically bonded moulding sands used in foundry practise. The main focus of this article is the analysis of the influence of the binder type on mechanical and thermal deformation in moulding sands.

W artykule, przytaczając najnowsze dane o produkcji odlewów i trendach jej rozwoju na świecie, Europie i w Polsce - zwrócono uwagę na znaczenie odlewnictwa w nowoczesnym przemyśle i gospodarce. Uwzględniając udział kosztów energii w całkowitym koszcie wytwarzania odlewów oraz przewidywane problemy w dostawach oraz wzroście energii, zwrócono uwagę na koniecnzość jej oszczędności w odlewnictwie - branży o znaczącym wykorzystaniu energii. Na podstawie badań i analiz przeprowadzonych w minionych latach (we Francji, W. Brytanii, Szwecji) i w ostatnim okresie (USA), przedstawiono dane dotyczące zużycia energii w różnych etapach procesu produkcji odlewów. Opisano również kierunki i metody oszczędności energii w odlewnictwie. Zamieszczone informacji mogą i powinny stanowić bazę odniesienia i porównań dla oceny zużycia energii w polskich odlewniach oraz podjęcie działań i badań dla realizacji tego celu.

Quoting the most actual data on casting production and trends of its development in the world, Europe and Poland - the attention was drawn to the importance of foundry engineerin gin the modern industry and economy. Taking into account costs of energy within total costs of casting production as well as the expected problems in energy supply and cost increases the necessity of energy saving in foundry engineering, which is known as being of high energy consumption - is emphasized in the paper. The data concerning energy consumption at various stages of the casting production process are presented on the bases of investigations an analyses performed some years ago (in France,l Great Britain, Swedem) and the most recently (in the USA). Directions and methods of energy saving in foundry engineering are also described. Tye presented information can and should constitute the reference base for comarisons and assessments of energy consumption in the Polish foundry plants and form undertaking endeavors and investigations to achieve savings.

In our work we carried out analyses of the cooling curves of different types of model castings of alloys (grey cast iron, ductile cast iron, compacted graphite cast iron, pure copper). We tried to find optimum conditions for picking up temperature during cooling (effect of the depth of immersion, effect of the type and design of the thermocouple probe, etc.).Simulations of casting solidification performed with the aid of MAGMA and SIMTEC software were compared with temperature measurements.

The article presents analysis of the influence of ingate size on the Lost Foam casting process. In particular, analysis of simulation tests has been carried out to determine the ingate size influence on the rate of filling of the mould cavity, pressure in the gas gap and size of the gas gap. A specially prepared mathematical model of the process and an original calculation algorithm were used in simulation tests of full-mould casting. The tests have indicated that the increase of the ingate size results in the increase of filling rate and increase of pressure of gases in the gas gap. However, significant influence on mould cavity filling occurs only when the ingate size is less than [...]1 cm2.

This study compiles the recorded values of instantaneous voltage and current levels in a three-phase system designed to power-supply the laboratory roller mixer. The measurement technique is outlined and relevant algorithms are provided for computing apparent power, active and reactive power, as well as power factors cos\fi and tg\fi. Calculation data reveal some fluctuations of power demand in the function of the amount and moisture of the synthetic system sand being mixed. Conclusions were drawn concerning the potential compensation of reactive power demand by an investigated roller mixer.

In the study, a pre-expansion station, designed by authors, was presented. It consists of a batch pre-expander with a 90 liters capacity foaming chamber, equipped with fluidized-solid dryer of pre-expanded beads and a pneumatic transport system of granules to the silo. Steam is delivered to the pre-expander from the electric vapor generator type LW 40.1. In the study, work principle of the pre-expansion station and pre-expansion tests carried out on this position were presented.
