The article is a critical analysis of a monograph by Joanna Szewczyk on the problem of femininity in Teodor Parnicki’s historical novels. The author suggests that Joanna Szewczyk precisely and multilaterally analysed the problem of feminine historiography and mythology in five novels. Using analytical tools created by feminist criticism the author combines the problem-focused approach with a very precise close reading of selected novels. As the author suggests such an approach is adequate and allows Szewczyk to present a convincing analysis of the problem of femininity in Parnicki’s prose.

The discussion of the ways one conceives of and reflex upon the procedures of archiving the opus of actresses active in the socialist period represents one of the urging tasks of both theatre studies and feminist criticism in Croatia, given the relative scarcity of interest for this area of research within Croatian theatre academia. This study presents the results of a research done on the work of one of the leading Croatian actresses after WWII, Neva Rošić, which mostly rely on the discourse analysis of theatre reviews, interviews, personal letters, articles written by the actress herself and other media reports on her major successes on the stage. A whole array of sources is thus summoned to corroborate the thesis that the female acting practice in this period, belonging as it does to the poetics of impersonation, could figure as an interesting ground for the analysis of both the issues of female acting authorship, and the cultural construction of gender norms, as well as the means and outcomes of their performative subversion.

The Polish literature of 1945-1989 - compared to many countries of Europe and America - is characterised by relatively poor use of inspirations arising from the psychoanalytical tradition. After 1989, this situation was partially changed. Devoting a monographic, double issue of "Teksty Drugie" ("Second Texts") to the phenomenon of the Return of psychoanalysis - which was its illustrative subtitle - may be regarded as extremely characteristic for the reception of the idea of Sigmund Freud in new Polish political and cultural reality. In the presented article, several prose texts written in the 1990s (by, among others, Olga Tokarczuk,Małgorzata Saramonowicz or Joanna Bator) were analysed, in which we observe rather clear references to many theses of the author of Introduction to psychoanalysis and his successors. Some of the literary works were interpreted in the context of intersexuality. Frequent - more or less explicit - references to various works of Freud (and of his successors, continuators, revisionists or polemicists) some times take on the character of inter-textual references, with which the analysed prose seems to match the literary trend which was distinctive for the Polish output of the 1990s.

The essay offers an analysis of Flesh and Blood, a novel by Michèle Roberts, first published in 1994. It discusses the book from the vantage point of French feminist criticism, especially écriture feminine, as well as gynocritics. The theory serves as a reference point for a better understanding of the novel’s structure, language and plot. In the opening paragraphs, the essay delineates the main premises of écriture feminine, a French feminist theory represented primarily by Hélène Cixous and Luce Irigaray, and gynocritics, a concept developed by the American feminist scholar Elaine Showalter. It then moves on to portray Flesh and Blood as an example of écriture feminine, analysing the aspects of the novel that mirror the theories of the French feminist critics: characters, motifs, structure, formal ploys and language.

Autorka analizuje wybrane dzieła trzech autorów serbskich: Ivo Andricia (Most na Drinie), Miodraga Bulatovicia (Czerwony kogut leci wprost do nieba) i Danila Kiša (Ogród, popiół). Jej celem jest uzyskanie odpowiedzi na pytanie dotyczące kategorii antybohatera w kontekście studiów nad niepełnosprawnością (disability studies). Autorka zwraca uwagę na podobieństwa w przedstawianiu niepełnosprawności w powojennej prozie serbskiej, jednocześnie wskazując na konieczność powiązania studiów nad niepełnosprawnością z innymi perspek­tywami badawczymi.

The Author made an attempt to the analysis of chosen works written by three Serbian writers: Ivo Andrić (The Bridge on the Drina), Miodrag Bulatović (The Red Rooster Flies Heavenwards) and Danilo Kiš (Garden, Ashes). Her purpose is to answer the question which is focused on the category of the antiprotagonist in the context of the disability studies. The Author is focused on the similarities in representations of the disability in the postwar Serbian prose. She shows also the necesserity of the connection between the disability studies and other research perspectives.

This article discusses selected reading strategies of Anna Świrszczyńska’s poetry, and Czarne Słowa [Black words] (1967) in particular, a collection which, in my reading, presents the intersections between gender, race and class. The ahistorical category of gender, which is dominant in the reading of Świrszczyńska’s poetry, is what obscures the complex image of social relations that emerges from her works. Employing feminist theories of social reproduction, I argue that the situation of women presented in Czarne Słowa not only differs from the one shown in Jestem baba [I am a woman] but also reveals Świrszczyńska’s ethical project, to which I refer as extended solidarity.

Niniejszy artykuł poświęcony jest wybranym strategiom lekturowym twórczości poetyckiej Anny Świrszczyńskiej na przykładzie Czarnych słów (1967), książki, która w moim odczytaniu przedstawia nierozerwalny splot trzech społecznych uwarunkowań: płci, rasy i klasy. Dominująca w odczytaniu jej poezji ahistoryczna kategoria płci jest tym, co maskuje ów złożony obraz stosunków społecznych, jaki wyłania się z twórczości poetki. Przyjmując założenia feministycznych teorii społecznej reprodukcji, wskazuję, że sytuacja bohaterek Czarnych słów nie tylko różni się od tej ukazanej w Jestem baba, ale odsłania też przed nami etyczny projekt Świrszczyńskiej, który określam mianem solidarności rozszerzonej.
