In the times when societies are marked by certain voluntarism, it is vital to remember a man who may be perceived as opposing such a point of view. Thanks to Marian Biskup’s attitude to work, which resembled the work of Cistercians, this talented historian managed to prepare monumental source editions referring particularly to the Teutonic Order and the development of early modern social structures in Prussia, which led to creating the fundaments for the work of whole generations of historians. All his life, even in his old age, he was keen on learning and ready to cooperate with his colleagues irrespective of their nationality despite the complicated political situation. It must be emphasized especially in the case of the man who in his youth experienced the atrocities of WWII and the after-war period.

After the II World War in Europe, devastated by war with a big migration of population, there was a huge residential hunger. Concrete slabs technology was very interesting since made it possible to solve quickly the residential problem. This technology was imported from western Europe. However this building method didn't fulfill inhabitant's expectations and became an city planning-architectural-cultural problem in nearly all cities. After years this building method was criticized and a question appeared: "what to do with big plate?" In recent years architects found several answers to this question, one of this was rebuilding of housing estates. Approximately 30% of housing fabric is built in concrete slabs technology.

The article deals with the consequences of a political agreement between King Ferdinand I and a part of the Bohemian opposition nobility, concluded in 1547 in order to restore stability following the Schmalkaldic War (1546–1547). The change in the tax system put Bohemian royal cities and owners of large estates at a considerable disadvantage while profits from manor farming and financial services remained virtually untaxed. This tax structure, applied for several decades, resulted in a rapid increase of debts and the ultimate collapse of the entire tax system in 1615. The resulting financial crisis was resolved by the Bohemian Landtag in 1615 by declaring bankruptcy of the treasury and taking over tax collection.
