Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to is to provide insights on implementing corporate social responsibility for sustainability (CSRS) concept and show how it differs from basic corporate social responsibility (CSR). Methodology: The paper discusses major issues with references to existing literature and real business cases from S&P500 consumer discretionary sector. Findings: The main finding of this paper is that CSRS could provide the company with a competitive advantage as a growing number of consumers become more sustainable conscious. It could also help to overcome the increasing consumers' skepticism towards corporate social responsibility practices. Finally, it can also be seen as a step forward in defining what types of corporate activities are associated with desirable social and environmental gains. Research limitations: Our sample was restricted to the U.S. firms from the consumer discretionary sector. Therefore, conclusions should not be generalized to other markets. Our study is based on the analysis of environmental and social responsibility statements and assumes that they accurately represent corporate commitment in majority of the cases. Practical implications: CSRS offers corporations the opportunity to use their unique skills, culture, values, resources, and management capabilities to lead social progress by making sustainability part of its internal corporate logic.

Each and every enterprise has a negative environmental impact. This can be due to the rate and range of this impact. Therefore, the basic principle of such a management is constant improvement and systematic minimization of the negative environmental impact with the use of available technical and economic means. To do this, the integrated environmental policy should be introduced in the whole institution. This paper gives illustrates the implementation of an environmental system, in line with the standard ISO 14001 and implementation procedure, on the example of GÓRAŻDŻE CEMENT S.A.

The environmental changes occurring in the Biebrza River Valley (NE Poland) during the last two centuries have enforced a number of conservation activities in Biebrza National Park (BNP). In order to optimise planning processes, a Decision Support System (DSS) was developed. The DSS consists of a Data Catalogue and Geographic Information System (GIS), as well as a Hydrological and an Ecological Modules. In this paper, we present the use of the DSS in a scenario study, in which the changes of water conditions on the floodplain were estimated after different vegetation management scenarios leading to different vegetation successions.

Przeobrażenia środowiskowe zachodzące w ciągu ostatnich dwóch wieków w otoczeniu doliny Biebrzy wymuszają czynną ochronę dużej części Biebrzańskiego Parku Narodowego. W celu optymalizacji działań ochronnych opracowano System Wspomagania Decyzji (DSS). W skład DSS wchodzą następujące elementy: Katalog danych z Geograficznym Systemem Informacyjnym (GIS) oraz moduły hydrologiczny i ekologiczny. Jako przykład wykorzystania DSS podano analizę zmian warunków wodnych w dolinie zalewowej wywołanych sukcesją roślinności.

Purpose: In this article, apart from description and analysis of the exemplary technologies of materials recovery, the general recycling model was proposed. Design/methodology/approach: The proposed model makes possible the identification and second waste processing of various groups of materials on the example of one production plant. The technological process and beginning of the presented model formation waste material and a finish product which is a product or pure raw material necessary to new goods production. Findings: In this article the analysis of methods and principles connected with the recycling were presented. Several technologies nowadays used in the aim of the raw materials recovery and second waste processing were also presented. Research limitations/implications: This model is build on the basis of the recycling technological processes with various groups of materials. The only difference is that in the model technologies are connected in total creating the production plant which realizes the whole recirculation process. Practical implications: Presented in this work the general, universal recycling technology model can be a preamble to starting of many investigations in direction of its practical implication. Originality/value: The integrated recycling technology model is a new approach to waste management making possible a significant waste reduction and minimization of raw materials usage.

In eightieth years appeared the conception of complex approach to protec-tion of environment in enterprises. In theoretical aspect emaged the conception of sustainable development, and in theory of the management - the conception of envi-ronmental management. The validity of the theory of the environmental management comes from the validity of the environment for existence, and development of human being, and economic's activity. This paper shows an attempt to evaluate ef-fectiveness of an environment management in industrial enterprises both these enterprises which have implemented, and certified system ISO 14001 and those which have managed traditionally (without any certified system).

The study takes up an attempt to provide answers to questions at what stage of the above concept implementation, hotel establishments, functioning in the region of Lower Silesia, find themselves. For this purpose the indicator of ecology oriented management implementation process was suggested, which defines the level of the above process advancement in these enterprises, while the conducted surveys allowed for specifying the stage represented by the studied hotels.

Coraz częściej w branży turystycznej akcentuje się potrzebę włączenia się przedsiębiorstw w proces wdrażania koncepcji zarządzania ekologicznego. W opracowaniu podjęto próbę udzielania odpowiedzi na pytania na jakim etapie wdrażania tej koncepcji znajdują się przedsiębiorstwa hotelarskie działające na Dolnym Śląsku. W tym celu zaproponowano wskaźnik stopnia zaawansowania procesu wdrażania zarządzania ekologicznego w tych przedsiębiorstwach, a przeprowadzone badania ankietowe pozwoliły na określenie etapu na jakim znajdują się zbadane hotele.

Wprowadzenie i opisanie techniki LCA w normach ISO serii 14000 ugruntowało jej wiodącą pozycje w zarządzaniu środowiskowym. Aktualnie w Polsce problematyka LCA jest ujęta w trzech dokumentach normalizacyjnych, dwóch normach: PN-EN ISO 14040:2009 i PN-EN ISO 14044:2009 oraz raporcie technicznym: PKN-ISO/TR 14047:2006. Norma PN-EN ISO 14040 dotyczy badania oceny cyklu życia oraz badania zbioru wejść i wyjść cyklu życia. Zasady sformułowane -w normie powinny być stosowane wytyczne podejmowania decyzji zarówno w zakresie planowania, jak i przeprowadzania LCA. W normie PN-EN ISO 14044 określono wymagania i podano wytyczne dotyczące oceny cyklu życia. Postanowienia normy w głównej mierze odnoszą się do czterech faz badania LCA: określenia celu i zakresu, analizy zbioru wejść i wyjść, oceny wpływu i interpretacji. W raporcie technicznym PKN-ISO/TR 14047:2006 podano 8 przykładów ilustrujących prowadzenie oceny wpływu cyklu życia. Przykład wiodący umożliwia prześledzenie pełnej procedury oceny wpływu cyklu życia, pozostałe przykłady ilustrują tylko wybrane zagadnienia.

Introducing and describing in ISO standards of series 14000 the LCA technique gave it a leading position in environmental management. At the present moment in Poland the problems of LCA are formulated in three documents, in two standards: PN-EN ISO 14040:2009, PN-EN ISO 14044:2009 and in a technical report PKN-ISO/TR 14047:2006. The standard PN-EN ISO 14040 refers to a life cycle assessment and to a life cycle inventory analysis. The rules described in that standard should be used as the guidelines for decision making in LCA planning and running. In the standard PN-EN ISO 14044 the requirements and guidelines concerning a life cycle assessment have been given. The standard's resolutions refer to four main parts of LCA study: defining its aim and scope, a life cycle inventory analysis, a life cycle impact assessment and an interpretation of results. In the technical report PKN-ISO/TR 14047:2006 eight examples illustrating a run of life cycle impact assessment have been given. A leading example enables to keep track of a complete LCIA procedure, the other examples illustrate the chosen problems only.

Purpose: Purpose of the presented paper is meant to enlight the common points between the application of practically well-matched methods of investigation and opinion of quality and usage of the modern technical, technological or organizational solutions, in this issue in the technological processes of preparation the wire rod surface to the plastic processing. Design/methodology/approach: Applied for the survey has comprised the adequate integrated expert methods of technological processes’ analysis and opinion, as well as the integrated opinion of technological processes using the Integrated Risk Ratio. Findings: of the led survey are as follows: the realization of quality and environmental policy in accordance with the proposed model results in the improvement of analyzed productive processes of steel wire rod, and in consequence-to their optimization both in the range of view of products quality and in the aspect of quality of environmental influence. Practical implications: Can refer to the substituting the chemical etching of wire rod by taking advantage of the technology, taking into account the method of mechanical removing of cinder. Originality/value: of the presented paper has been achieved by application of the new methodology covering the usage of integrated opinion of technological processes, including the Integrated Risk Ratio.

Ochrona środowiska jest jednym z kluczowych celów działania Wspólnoty Europejskiej. Dynamiczny rozwój gospodarczy spowodował wzrost nie tylko produkcji, lecz także negatywny wpływ na środowisko. Rozwój produkcji przemysłowej prowadzi również do rosnącej nieprzerwanie konsumpcji surowców, czego konsekwencją jest zużywanie zasobów środowiska. Dlatego zwiększyło się zainteresowanie zachowaniem jakości środowiska i intensywną w tej dziedzinie współpracą międzynarodową. Usuwanie i zapobieganie szkodom ekologicznym oraz koszty tych działań stały się problemami dotyczącymi zarówno organów administracji państwowej, jak i prywatnych przedsiębiorców.

Environmental protection has been among the key objectives of the European Union's activities. A dynamic economic development has resulted not only in an increase in production but in a negative impact on the environment as well. Development of industrial production has lead also to a continuously increasing consumption of raw materials the consequence of which is the use of the natural resources. Therefore the interest in maintaining the quality of the environment has strengthened alongside with an intensive international cooperation in this area. Elimination and preventing environmental damages and the costs of these efforts has become an issue to both: state administration bodies and private enterprises.

Nowadays environmental management is very important part of management in industry.The heart of the environmental management is minimizing pollution at the source. At the Textile Company 'Luxpol' Co. in Stargard Szczeciński near Szczecin, dyehouse is the biggest user of water and heat energy. This paper is focused on a simple way of simultaneous minimization of water, energy and chemicals consumption. There two propositions: decrease in the volume of dyeing apparatus depending on production scheme plan, which is kind of preventing pollution at the source, and regeneration of exhausted dyeing baths and their reuse.

Zarządzanie pośrodowiskowe uważa się dziś za bardzo ważny element zarządzania w zakładach przemysłowych.Jedną z jego głównych zasad jest minimalizowanie ilości powstających zanieczyszczeń już w miejscu ich powstania. W przedstawionym artykule opisano proste sposoby symultanicznego minimalizowania ilości zużywanej wody, energii i barwników w barwiarni Zakładów Przemysłu Odzieżowego 'LUXPOL' S.A. w Stargardzie Szczecińskim. Pierwsze z opisanych rozwiązań zapobiega powstawaniu zanieczyszczeń w miejscu ich tworzenia się i polega na zmniejszaniu objętości aparatów barwiących w zależności od planu produkcji na dany okres. Drugie rozwiązanie polega na regeneracji wyczerpanych kąpieli barwiących i ich powtórnym użyciu w produkcji. Jest to przykład powtórnego użycia zużytych materiałow.
