The article focuses on the general issues on the currently common practice to replace the employment contracts by civil-law contracts (commonly known as ‘junk contracts’) by Polish entrepreneurs. One of the aims of the paper was pointing out the advantages and disadvantages of such proceedings - both for the businesses and employees. Moreover, Authors intended to outline the other consequences of such actions, those of an economic and social aspect. Although the effects of common use of civil-law contracts among entrepreneurs might be of various kinds, it's vital to strongly underline that this type of contract is absolutely necessary and one cannot completely abandon them.

This study aims to discuss one of the most significant economic and social developments in the world – the rise of the female entrepreneurship phenomenon. Women entrepreneurship needs to be studied as a separate field for two main reasons: (a). Female entrepreneurship is an important source of economic growth in creating new jobs and by being genetically different: women provide different solutions to management and business issues; (b). Female entrepreneurship has been neglected, particularly in business research. Although equal opportunity for men and women in the entrepreneurial field is not a reality in the short range, the progress towards its achievement could be facilitated by better understanding of the impact of female entrepreneurship on society and its contribution to economic growth. This study addresses the growth in female entrepreneurship in the developed and developing countries, explores primary motivational and other factors that influence female entrepreneurship, reviews the main obstacles facing the female entrepreneur, and finally makes recommendations to policy-makers to encourage and support such activity.

The subject of this study is the analysis of the influence the global crisis has on entrepreneurship in Poland, and identification of activities undertaken to fade away it’s results, both on the national and EU level. Background of this analysis consists of a judgment of the influence the globalization process has on the conditions of activity and development of enterprises, mainly those from the SME sector. The results from the research indicate the low position of our country in the field of innovativeness, and a decrease of financial results has an effect on the change of the investment strategy, in the direction of reducing innovations. However, despite the worsening of the economic conditions, the number of newly established enterprises showed increasing tendencies. The most subjects were created in the group of small enterprises, employing from 10 to 49 people. This confirms the thesis, that during the crisis the SME sector, with creation of conditions which supported activity, effectively contributed to the social – economic development

Transnational entrepreneurship is an evolving field of research which occupies an interface between social and regional sciences. The phenomenon of transnational entrepreneurship is driven by entrepreneurs that migrate from one country to another whilst maintaining business-related linkages with their former country of origin and the adopted country. The most critical distinguishing feature of transnational entrepreneurs is bifocality or the ability to function across two different business environments. Most writings on transnational entrepreneurship concentrate on business individuals from the global South operating enterprises in the global North. Absent are empirical studies of the nature and behaviour of transnational migrant entrepreneurs who operate across or between emerging or developing economies. This South-South gap in international research concerning transnational entrepreneurship is addressed in the paper which provides an exploratory analysis of the nature of transnational entrepreneurship occurring in Southern Africa using evidence of Zimbabwean transnational entrepreneurs based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Selected opinions on entrepreneurship from catholic social thought are described in the article. Catholic Church in her teaching treats entrepreneurship favorably, but seldom actively encourages to it. Catholic social teaching indicates that entrepreneurs as well as managers or other decision makers in the economy should take common good, human dignity and their own fulfillment as their goals. Profit, being the first indicator of effectiveness of the business is just a means to accomplish goals, not a goal itself. Entrepreneurs and business leaders often encounter dilemmas where there is no ready answer. Entrepreneurship is a vocation enabling building virtues such as: courage, creativeness, community building and practical realism.

This paper builds on existing theoretical and empirical studies in the areas of family business and entrepreneurship. It uses Dubin´s theory building framework to propose a model for conducting research of family businesses and its linkage to entrepreneurial activities in Mexico. This works starts by describing the concepts of family business and explains the importance that these definitions can have on the variables to be included in the research. After that, the paper explains how the concept of “familiness” relates to the essence definition of family business. Using the resource-based view (RBV), agency theory, and social capital theories we describe how social capital resources are the basis for building firm capabilities and competitive advantages that influence firm’s performances. Based on this perspective, a theoretical model, laws of interaction, a set of propositions and suggestions for further research are provided.

Despite the fact that discussions have focused on the Association Agreement and resolving the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine as a turning point in EU-Ukraine relations, we look at the European integration of Ukraine from the perspective of public opinion. This is important because public opinion is one of the most important EU factors that may affect European integration and Europeanization processes in the EU countries. Numerous contemporary theoretical studies of entrepreneurship formulate the view that entrepreneurship may be described not only by the domination of a measureable economic goal, but also - to use Ludwig von Mises' definition - by the causal principle. This article is an interdisciplinary attempt to explain the essence of entrepreneurship as well as the diversity and variation of its preconditions. It focuses on an attempt to analyse causal orientation in the activity of the entrepreneur, which is complementary in relation to goal orientation. The attempt to explain the preconditions of entrepreneurial activities implies the possibility of a multifaceted description of man and his environment, where creative freedom holds a special place.

Współcześnie, w licznych studiach teoretycznych z zakresu przedsiębiorczości formułowany jest pogląd, że kategoria przedsiębiorczości to nie tylko kategoria, w której dominuje wymierny cel ekonomiczny, ale również - używając określenia Ludwika von Misesa - zasada przyczynowości. Artykuł jest interdyscyplinarną próbą wyjaśnienia istoty przedsiębiorczości oraz różnorodności i zmienności jej uwarunkowań. Koncentruje się na próbie analizy orientacji przyczynowej w działaniu przedsiębiorcy, która posiada komplementarny charakter w stosunku do orientacji celowościowej. Próba wyjaśnienia uwarunkowań przedsiębiorczych działań implikuje możliwość wieloaspektowego opisu człowieka i jego otoczenia, gdzie kreatywna wolność zajmuje miejsce szczególne.

Solutions tailored to individual customer needs have become an indispensable condition for the development of competitive advantage. The main objective of the publication is to provide an innovative project in the area of public transport – Poland’s first outdoor media stop. The paper presents the functionality of the applied tools dedicated to business customers. For the purpose of achieving the aim of the paper, desk research studies were conducted along with direct interview with the co-founder of GLIP Ltd. – the originator and creator of the presented information and communication solutions. The publication is of research and analysis character and the presented case study can provide a contribution to the in-depth research in the area of technology start-ups.

With the transition towards a knowledge-based economy, entrepreneurship has become a focus of public policy, especially on the regional level, as one of the most significant factors of economic growth. The knowledge spillover theory of entrepreneurship is based on the assumption that entrepreneurs act as a missing link in the knowledge-based economy, by converting incompletely commercialized knowledge into economically significant one. They do so by founding new ventures – start-ups – in order to exploit knowledge created in larger companies, which are unwilling to commercialize new ideas due to a high level of uncertainty. In this sense, starting up a new company acts as a conduit for the spillover of knowledge. The aim of the paper is to explain the foundations of the knowledge spillover theory of entrepreneurship. In the second part of the paper, the analysis of the Małopolska region in the light of the knowledge spillover theory of entrepreneurship is carried out. The special focus is on academic entrepreneurship in the region, since the theoretical concept of knowledge spillover theory of entrepreneurship may well serve as a framework to analyze knowledge-based ventures.

The history of venture capital funds has shown that they are crucial for the promotion of innovation and competitiveness of the economy. By funding projects that are considered by others as too risky, they contribute to the increase in the number of modern enterprises as well as create jobs and constitute a significant participant in the capital market. This article aims to identify the factors having an impact on the condition of the Polish market of venture capital investments. An analysis of the system solutions adopted by the US and European leaders in the venture capital market indicates that of greatest importance are the legal regulations on the organisational forms of funds and their fiscal transparency as well as those on the system of tax reliefs and exemptions and pension funds’ participation possibilities. Such aspects as the corporate income tax rate and the capital gains tax rate proved to be of secondary importance for the operation of venture capital funds.

W artykule rozważania na ten temat odniesione zostały do województwa wielkopolskiego. Starano się określić mikro- i makroekonomiczne determinanty działań przedsiębiorczych oraz ukazać główne kierunki rozwoju przedsiębiorczości a także jej bezpośrednie i indukowane efekty. Stwierdzono, iż przedsiębiorczość jest nie tylko celem samym w sobie, lecz przede wszystkim środkiem realizacji ważnych zadań gospodarczych i społecznych.

Stiving for the enterprise's activity on the locallevel generates the neccessity to recognizing the various factors, which condition it and economic tools, which can stimulate its dynamics. Consideration connected with this subject was related to Wielkopolska. It was defined the micro- and macroeconomics determinants of enterprise's activity and showed the main direction of enterprise's development, and its direct and indirect effects. It was found, that enterprise's activity isn't the aim on one' s own, but first of all - it is a n instrument to realise an important economic and social tasks.

Bearing that in mind, the author aims to present the significant role of business environment institutions and their activities for enterprises in the present economy.

The aim of the paper is to analyze the recent meta-analytic studies on the relationships between entrepreneurship and the personality of entrepreneurs, which are promising. The Big Five traits (positive relationships to conscientiousness, openness to experience, and extraversion, as well as negative relationships to agreeableness and neuroticism), the need for achievement, risk propensity and generalized self-efficacy are taken into consideration. The findings show that there are systematic, statistically significant as well as moderate to weak relationships between personality traits and entrepreneurial intention as well as entrepreneurial performance. Taking into account the conclusion based on these analyses, a holistic scheme for further research was proposed. This model includes moderators and mediators, which are supposed to explain the value of personality traits. The main limitation of the conducted research in this field is the small amount of longitudinal research. Thus, it is strongly advised to apply a prospective design in further research. It is worth emphasizing that such findings are useful for the selection process regarding public support for those starting up a new venture.

W badaniu zaprezentowano wyniki badań w zakresie przedsiębiorczości młodzieży akademickiej województwa podlaskiego. Głównym celem badań było określenie zależności zachodzących pomiędzy stopniem, trybem i rokiem kształcenia a przejawianą przedsiębiorczością. Postawy przedsiębiorcze identyfikowano za pomocą cech osobowości sygnalizowanych przez studentów, a także działań podejmowanych przez studentów, takich jak założenie własnej działalności gospodarczej czy też sama chęć założenia własnej działalności gospodarczej. Badanie postaw przedsiębiorczych na podlaskich uczelniach zostało przeprowadzone w 2015 roku wśród 2 004 studentów. W doborze próby zastosowano dobór losowy warstwowy, a w badaniu wykorzystano kwestionariusz ankiety skonstruowany specjalnie na potrzeby tego badania. Podjęte przez autorkę badania są wyrazem zainteresowania tematyką przedsiębiorczości, a przedstawione wyniki powinny stanowić zachętę do podejmowania dalszych badań dotyczących przedsiębiorczości.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the entrepreneurial attitudes of the students of Podlaskie Voivodeship and to identify the correlation between the study cycle, degree and course type and manifested entrepreneurial attitudes. Entrepreneurial attitudes were identified by means of the students' personality traits, as well as through activities undertaken by them, such as starting their own business, or the intention to do so. The study of entrepreneurial attitudes at Podlaskie's higher education institutions was conducted in 2015 among 2,004 students. The sampling of the population group was random and stratified; the questionnaire had been designed specifically for the needs of the study. Research undertaken by the author is an expression of a deep interest in the subject of entrepreneurship and the results presented in the paper should encourage further studies in the field.

Over the last forty years, since Bandura (1977) introduced the concept of self-efficacy, there have been a constantly growing number of research publications using this concept. Its early development resulted in the creation of a new construct of entrepreneurial self-efficacy (ESE) proposed for the first time by (Chen et al. 1998). Since then, many different groups of research concerning ESE have emerged - one of them is the study of ESE of students. With regard to this particular group, a recent tendency to study ESE in a pre-post setting can be noticed i.a. Karlsson, Moberg (2013), Shinnar, Hsu, Powell (2014), Ismail, Zain, Zulihar (2015). Due to the increasing interest in entrepreneurial self-efficacy research and the need to fill the gap in the literature with regard to European post-communist countries (and particularly – Poland) (Drnovsek, Wincent, Cardon, 2010), in this paper we present a brief overview of ESE research and pose the question whether ESE of Polish students can serve as an early predictor of their subsequent entrepreneurial activities, potentially leading them to nascent entrepreneurship. The research material was collected from the SEAS (Survey on Entrepreneurial Attitudes of Students) Project carried out at the Faculty of Management and Economics, Gdańsk University of Technology. The research sample was composed of 72 students - ESE was measured in a pre-post setting using a single item based on a five-point Likert scale. One of the research conclusions is that ESE manifested by student-beginners seems to influence their later entrepreneurial behavior in a statistically significant way - potentially making ESE a valuable early predictor of future entrepreneurial activities. In the concluding part of the study, limitations are discussed and future study developments are indicated.
