In the article I present opposing goals of education: adaptation to the labor market and emancipation. I describe the paradoxes of modern democracy and I show the features of the modern labor market, its limitations for the development and emancipation of the individual. I ask a question about the sources and manifestations of the limitations of the emancipatory function of higher education, and I look for proposals to solve this problem.
