Grabia, a small still close to natural conditions lowland river, has been an object of special interest for Łódź hydrobiologists for more than 50 years. Over 100 scientific papers and over 100 master theses were produced in the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection University of Łódź. The initiator was Prof.L.K. Pawłowski who spent many years conducting research into the river. The ground and the first research objective was to recognize the fauna diversity. The checklist encompass almost 1000 invertebrate and 24 fish species. Taxonomy, biology and ecology of various taxa have made for many decades an essential trend of scientific activity. Special attention was dedicated to rotifers, leeches, branchiobdellids, snails and bivalves, gammarids and copepods as well as aquatic insects, fish and also diatoms. Some aspects of zoobenthos and Zooplankton communities ecology was the subject of 13 Ph.D.theses. The river with its rich animal and plant communities was also the subject of dynamics of river ecosystem research. The study on the structure of invertebrate assemblages on the background of habitat diversity has been recently conducted. The model may be treealed as a reference to the restoration of Europaean rivers and their valleys.

Ważną grupą czynników warunkujących procesy zarządzania jest grupa czynników ekologicznych, do których zaliczamy: wyczerpywanie się zasobów środowiska, degradację środowiska, rosnący poziom świadomości ekologicznej oraz zmieniające się wymagania klientów dotyczące ekologizacji produktów. Niezbędne jest zatem propagowanie zupełnie odmiennego stylu gospodarowania zasobami i kształtowanie zupełnie odmiennego społeczeństwa dbającego o środowisko. Współczesne koncepcje zarządzania traktują jednakowo zasoby środowiska, zasoby ludzkie, a także zasoby finansowe. W artykule jest mowa o tym, jak zmienia się podejście zarządzających organizacjami do gospodarowania zasobami środowiska naturalnego, surowcami i materiałami wykorzystywanymi w procesie produkcji w kontekście ekologizacji życia społeczno-gospodarczego.

Important group of factors, which determined the management process are ecological factors, such as: exhaust of environmental resource, pollution of environment, higher level of environmental awareness, changing of customer requirements who prefer "green" products. There is a need to promote so different style of environmental resource management and society that care for environment. Contemporary style of management treats environmental resource on a level with personal, financial resource, etc. In the paper changing way into environmental resource management was present.

The objective of this study, undertaken in the Mato Grosso State, Southern Brazilian Amazon Rainforest, was to gain an understanding of what the Apiaká indigenous know of the mammals of natural occurrence in their territory. Open and semi-structured interviews were utilized. Twelve indigenous of both genres and different ages were interviewed. The interviewees mentioned 36 different mammalian species and they showed wide ecological knowledge regarding these animals. Moreover, oral transmission of knowledge occurs across the generations.

On the basis of the effective methodics of estimation of emission of polluants to the air determined have been the emission indices of S02, CO, NOx, CxHx, dust, benzo(a)pyrene, and aIdehydes for the individual grades of coaIs produced by the Collieries of CHK. The data haye been tabulated together with the emission indices determined for some other hard coaIs coming from the ColIieries of the other Coal Companies.

Stosowanie organicznych paliw kopalnych jest przyczyną ujemnego oddziaływania na środowisko, co jest związane z procesem ich wydobywania, transportu, magazynowania i spalania oraz gospodarką produktami z ich spalania i oczyszczania spalin. Największe obciążenie środowiska wywołuje proces spalania, a następnie procesy wydobywania i oczyszczania paliw stałych. Problemy związane z oczyszczaniem spalin od pyłu, SO2 i NOx zostały praktycznie rozwiązane. W dużym stopniu rozwiązywane jest także zagospodarowanie stałych produktów spalania i odsiarczania spalin, eliminujące ich deponowanie w środowisku. Dla obniżenia emisji CO2 i podwyższenia sprawności termicznej urządzeń energetycznych są wdrażane nowe technologie spalania węgla i ewentualnie tworzone układy hybrydowe. Decyzje o pełnym zagospodarowaniu CO2 stanowi poważny problem technologiczny i techniczny oraz ekonomiczny. Koszty wytwarzania energii elektrycznej i ciepła na bazie węgla, będą w najbliższych latach rosły, z tytułu wzrostu cen na węgiel i kosztów produkcji czystej energii. W niedalekiej przyszłości dojdą koszty usuwania mikrofrakcji pyłowej i rtęci oraz oczywiście wydzielania i składowania CO2. Koszty wytwarzania energii na bazie węgla zbliżą się, a nawet zrównają z kosztami wytwarzania energii z gazu ziemnego.

The use of organic fossil fuels, in consequence of their extraction, transportation, storing, combustion as well as the disposal of combustion and flue gas treatment products, results in the negative influence on environment. However, the heaviest impact on environment is caused by the combustion process and next by solid fuels’ extraction and treatment processes. The problems regarding the flue gas cleaning from dust, SO2 and NOx have been practically solved. The utilization of solid combustion products and flue gas desulfurization products, which eliminates their depositing in environment, is also, to a high degree, solved. To reduce CO2 emissions and increase energy equipment thermal efficiency, new technologies of coal combustion are being implemented and eventually new hybrid systems are created. The decision on full utilization of CO2 constitutes a serious technological, technical and economical problem. Costs of coal-based thermal and electrical energy production will increase in the coming years due to the rise of coal prices as well as pure energy production costs. In the near future one should consider the costs of powder micro fraction and mercury elimination and obviously the CO2 emission and storage costs. The costs of coal-based energy production should be very near or even are expected to reach the costs of energy production basing on natural gas.

The main objective of this paper is to report three benthic diatom species from the Nišava and Jerma Rivers, which prove to be new findings in the context of the Serbian diatom flora. These are also new distributional records for all three species. Monthly samples (from stones, sediments and macrophytes) were collected from May 2008 to May 2009. Diatom frustules were cleaned using chemical agents, and mounted on permanent slides. Descriptions (main valve measurement of the populations in the Nišava and Jerma Rivers), ecology, distribution in Serbia and Europe, and appropriate photomicrographs of three species are presented. Navicula novaesiberica Lange-Bertalot and Neidiomorpha binodiformis (Krammer) Lange-Bertalot & Cantonati are rarely found in Europe, while Parlibellus protracta (Grunow) Witkowski is more common. Navicula novaesiberica and Neidiomorpha binodiformis were found at higher water temperatures in comparison to temperatures reported in the existing literature. These new taxa significantly contribute to diatom floristic richness of the Nišava and Jerma Rivers in Serbia.

Residential cold and hot potable water-meters are the most popular measurement instruments (MI) of legal metrology regulation used for custody transfer. The performance of utility water meters of different design (single jet vane wheel meter, concentric multi-jet vane wheel meter, volumetric meter with ring piston) with nominal flow rate 1.5 m3/h has been investigated when installed downstream from five different gasket diameters - 15.0 mm, 14.2 mm, 12.7mm, 10.0 mm and 8.7 mm. Effects of turning of the meter around the pipe axis investigated too. The largest positive percentage errors up to 25% are re- ported for the 8.7 mm gaskets for single-jet vane wheel meter while volumetric meters are not sensitive to gasket bore reduction. Turning around the pipe axis procure negative additional percentage error which value at lower flow range reaches up to -20%...-30% for some type of meters. Tested volumetric meters are the less sensitive to considered installation effects in comparison with vane meters.
