This article concerns using renewable energy resources. It contains an analysis of pollution emissions created by combustion of conventional and unconventional energy resources. It provides examples of cogeneration systems. In particular, it focuses on a system correlated with a gas turbine and a system correlated with a piston combustion engine. Attention is paid to the issue of applying innovative solutions in heating technology.

Public security is nowadays considered to be a key area of national security. Its main objective is to protect the population from the effects of various types of threats that may appear on the territory of Poland, but also beyond its borders. Such threats include undoubtedly volcanic eruptions. In this article, the author makes an attempt to analyse the above phenomenon from the perspective of direct and indirect threats it poses to public security. The author included in it: the definition and basic types of volcanoes, the characteristics of volcanic eruptions and their consequences, as well as the characteristics of volcanic threats in Poland. The article ends with the author’s summary and conclusions in which the author refers to the impact of volcanic threats on public security.

The following article features the issues of managing environmental protection in the area of public administration. The organizational structure of public administration is based on the rule of executive and decision-making bodies existing within the system. The article focuses on performing duties related to environmental protection, concentrating not on all bodies of public authorities but on single executive bodies of public administration. Particular attention is paid to the issue of taking such actions (especially by the local authorities and public administration) that would protect the quality of the environment to create the state of ecological safety and achieve the rule of sustainable development.

The complex system of control, monitoring and improvement of power quality in power supply systems of oil production enterprises is designed, which also allows to decrease the negative influence on the environment. The main reasons for mismatch between the actual electricity quality in distribution network and the requirements for oil producing businesses, as set forth by reference documents, have been disclosed. Recommendations in connection with the arrangement and the practical implementation of technical measures for controlling and improving the quality of electric power in oil producing enterprises power supply systems are provided.

The ecological condition of the Stebnyk tailings storage during the period of its operation and the development of the processes of filling it with brines to a critical level are analyzed. It is shown that the main reason for the current state of crisis of this object is its incorrect operation and the lack of an effective system for collecting and removing atmospheric water. The concept of hydro-technical reclamation of the tailings storage through the creation of the Stebnyk hydropark has been developed. The proposed technical solutions for the hydro-technical reclamation of the tailings storage include proposals for the design of a network of direct distribution and outlet channels on the territory of the already dry section No. 1, for the unloading of section No. 2. The design of the hydro-technical system “tailing storage – direct distribution and outlet channels channels” is based on a mathematical model of the water balance in conditions of continuous replenishment of ground and surface water and an increase in their level. The proposed hydro-technical network will provide control over the level of brines and discharge of water from the tailings storage facility. Geoinformation technologies were used to visualize the proposed technical solutions for the hydro-technical reclamation of the tailings storage. The implementation of the developed project proposals will ensure an environmentally safe hydrodynamic state of the “tailings storage – direct distribution and outlet channels” system, which will eliminate the threat of brine overflow through the protective dam, as well as the threat of dam breach and brine flow into water objects. Hydro-technical reclamation will ensure the environmental safety of human activities and water ecosystems of the water network of the Dniester river basin.

This article aims to present the state of air quality treated as a measure of the state of quality of local environmental safety, based on the research conducted in the town of Barlinek. This information is necessary to identify the areas that require action to improve air quality (to reduce the concentration of pollutants). The main factors that inspired the author to address this issue are, first of all, the continuous high level of air pollution, despite the actions taken to reduce it; secondly, the lack of precise, clear indicators and measures of such deprivation that applies to a major part of the territory of Poland that would take into account the individual national context; thirdly, the need to identify the main factors that determine this phenomenon in the specific context of Poland. Other factors include the need to consider the requirement for Poland as a member state of the EU to participate in reducing air pollution to an appropriate extent; and, finally, the need to develop and implement integrated 10-year National Energy and Climate Plans (NECP) for the years 2021–2030 with a long-term perspective to the year 2050, as well as long-term renovation strategies to improve the accuracy of eliminating air pollution. The research problem focuses on three issues: presenting the current national and European criteria of ecological safety for air pollution, identifying the indicators and measures that enable the determination of air pollution levels, and presenting the local air pollution level based on the selected example. The research problem discussed in the article is empirical. Analytical/synthetic, qualitative and quantitative methods were used to provide a more in-depth analysis of the problem, and conclusions were drawn.

The issue of eco-efficiency is associated with actions aimed at increasing the productivity of raw materials, natural resources and energy savings in production and at the same time offering environmentally friendly products and services. This kind of action is beneficial to businesses and the environment, as well as the society. By reducing the pressure on the environment, caused by production processes, consumption and investment, it is possible to reduce impact of anthropological risks and simultaneously ensuring ecological safety. This article addresses the explanation of the possible connection of eco-efficiency and ecological safety. Considerations include the issue of terminology, as well as key elements of both concepts. The main thesis is: creating solutions for ecoefficiency is associated with ecological safety.

This work is dedicated to the development of scientific technologies of wastewater purification of different industrial enterprises from chrome ions through adsorption with the help of bentonite from Cherkasy field under dynamic conditions. The prospects and efficacy of bentonite clays application for wastewater purification are confirmed by their advantages over other sorbents, that is: they win in accessibility, cost, and possibility of regeneration and multiple applications. The level of wastewater purification during adsorption with a stationary sorbent layer under static conditions and under conditions of perfect mixing at different concentrations of chromium ions (III) and quantities of the dosed sorbent was determined. The significant difference in the purification level ranges from 70–87% and is more dependent on the stock concentration of chromium ions. It was found that the purification time of the same volumes of solutions for low concentrations is almost twice shorter under constant stirring, and of the same level at the stock concentrations of 1500 mg/dm3. The technological schemes of wastewater purification from the heavy metal ions contamination were developed.

Cheap and ecologically friendly energy resources are vital factors for sustainable development of the national economy. Due to global climate change and the depletion of fossil fuel resources, renewable energy may promote energy security and decrease harmful emissions. This paper aims at studying strategic directions for biofuel production and its utilization in Ukraine. On the basis of the literature review, steady world trends of renewable energy use have been revealed. Production of energy resources and the efficiency of their utilization have been analyzed. The modern aspects and priority of bioenergy use are highlighted. To evaluate the competitiveness of biofuels and their influence on energy security and ecological safety, organizational and managerial measures have been proposed.

The article discusses the problem of air quality with which every major urban agglomeration is struggling. The number of cars that have appeared in recent years in Poland shows that one of the problems of air quality can be the obsolete car fleet of our citizens. Vehicle age analysis and quality problems were investigated by authorized diagnostic stations, which are responsible for a reliable approach to vehicle inspection.

The article describes the concept of ecological safety from the perspective of obligations imposed on public authorities who are responsible for ensuring ecological safety. The transport sector has a negative influence on the environment in many respects. The analysis concerns the actions taken by local authorities to minimize ecological threats from transportation. The article draws attention to the content of strategic documents, with particular emphasis on the prioritisation of public transport. The strategic documents adopted by the Wrocław authorities give priority to public transport, pedestrians and cyclists. According to the policy of local authorities, public transport should be low-emission, efficient, safe and reliable. The article attempts to outline possible scenarios for shaping the pro-ecological policy of the city of Wrocław, taking into account the urbanisation of suburban areas and solving the problems of access to urban transport.

W artykule została zaprezentowana analiza pojęcia bezpieczeństwa ekologicznego z perspektywy obowiązków jakie ciążą na organach władzy publicznej odpowiedzialnych za zapewnianie bezpieczeństwa ekologicznego. Sektor transportu negatywnie oddziałuje na środowisko w wielu aspektach. W przedstawionych rozważaniach skupiono się na działaniach władz lokalnych nakierowanych na minimalizację zagrożeń ekologicznych powodowanych przez sektor transportu. Zwrócona została uwaga na treść dokumentów strategicznych, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem priorytetów w dziedzinie funkcjonowania transportu publicznego. Główne dokumenty strategiczne uchwalone przez władze Wrocławia przyznają priorytet dla transportu publicznego, pieszych i rowerzystów. Zgodnie z polityką lokalnych władz transport publiczny powinien być niskoemisyjny, efektywny, bezpieczny i wiarygodny. W artykule została podjęta próba nakreślenia możliwych scenariuszy kreowania polityki proekologicznej miasta Wrocławia z uwzględnieniem czynnika urbanizacji terenów podmiejskich oraz rozwiązania problemów dostępnego transportu miejskiego.

This article is concerned with the influence of the issue of environmental safety in the Arctic on the relations between the Kingdom of Norway and the Russian Federation. Basic documents that determine the environmental protection policy of the two countries as well as the areas of the most visible bilateral collaboration (marine resources conservation in the Arctic, ensuring nuclear safety in the region, combating air pollution, eliminationof chemical weapons) have been discussed. Additionally, the actions taken by the governments in Moscow and Oslo for ensuring environmental safety in the Arctic have been analyzed.

The article is devoted to the development of methodical approaches to the management of environmental risks due to pesticide contamination of agrocenoses. An assessment of ecological risks due to the use of pesticides was carried out at the scientific research field of the Skvirskaya research station of organic production of the IAP of the National Academy of Sciences during the growing seasons of 2019–2021. The methods of assessing the ecological risks of potential pesticide contamination of agrocenoses based on the indicators of the agroecotoxicological index (AETI) and the ecotoxic impact of harmful substances (E) were used on the natural environment. It was shown that the level of environmental risk due to the use of pesticides in the research field of the station according to the weighted average indices (AETI) is characterized as low – risk, and the environmental risk due to the pesticides using is minimal. According to indicators of ecotoxicity (E), the pesticides that were used are characterized as having a low potential ecotoxic risk of impact on agrocenoses of cultivated plants. However, the total pesticide ecotoxicological load (ΣЕ = 0.425 compared to the standard EDDT = 1) indicates the possibility of disruption of ecological connectivities in the agroecosystem. One of the elements of environmental risk management can be the assessment of the pesticide load on agroecosystems and considering of the territory ability to self-clean. In order to minimize the environmental risks of pesticide contamination of agrocenoses, measures should be taken to regulate the use of chemical plant protection agents. This can be done by banning or limiting the use of pesticides that have a high level of ecotoxicity and are persistent in the soil. This will contribute to increasing the ecological safety of agro-ecosystems and the natural environment.
