Szeroko pojęta dozymetria chemiczna znajduje istotne zastosowanie, głównie w nauce oraz praktyce laboratoryjnej. Jest to bardzo rozwojowa, ciekawa i przydatna gałąź wiedzy. U jej podstaw leżą właściwie wszystkie zaobserwowane procesy radiacyjne, zaś mechanizmy wielu z nich zostały poznane, właśnie dzięki osiągom dozymetrii chemicznej. Najpopularniejszymi dozymetrami chemicznymi pozostają dozymetr Frickego oraz cerowy. U podstaw ich działania leżą różne zjawiska fizyczne oraz radiochemiczne istotne dla dozymetrii.

Chemical dosimetry is very widley applicated, especially in science and laboratory practice. It is a very developmental, interesting and useful branch of knowledge. At its root lies alomost all observed radiative processes, and mechanisms and many of them were known, thanks to the performances of the chemical dosimetry. The most common chemical dosimeters are Fricke and cerium dosimeter. At the core of their work are different physical phenomena and radiochemical important for dosimetry.

In this study, the noise sources to which a coal miner, who works at the Kurul panel of Kilimli Colliery, Zonguldak, was exposed were investigated. These sources were positioned at different points from the surface to the workface. Noise levels were measured according to the working periods of the coal miners around the machines. The results were evaluated under the Turkish Noise Regulation. The critical exposure times in which the coal miners could work without the use of personal protective equipment were examined according to the noise values to which they were exposed. In addition, the personal noise exposure values of the machine operators (boring machine, electro-hydraulic drill, and pick hammer) were determined during the development works. Two different types of noise measurements, with a microphone at the ear level and inside the ear protector, were conducted. The results obtained when the microphone of the personal dosimeter was at ear level, were found to be 15 dBA higher than those when the microphone was inside the ear protector. As a result, the selection methods of ear protectors were analyzed. Recommendations were given for those working on the risky tasks at the panel.

Content available remote A Method of 1D UVC Radiation Dose Measurement using a Novel Tablet Dosimeter

In this work, a method for the measurement of one-dimensional (1D) UV radiation dose is described. It comprises a new tablet dosimeter that measures the dose using reflectance spectrophotometry. The tablet dosimeter elaborated is a solid structure with a cylindrical form and has been manufactured with polycaprolactone (PCL) doped with a representative of tetrazolium salts: 2,3,5−triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC). The PCL used makes the dosimeter biodegradable and therefore proecological. The TTC dopant is distributed uniformly in the whole PCL tablet, and the whole tablet changes color to red under UVC irradiation. The intensity of this color increases if the PCL–TTC tablet absorbs higher doses. The color of the tablet is stable for at least 30 days after irradiation. It is proposed that the PCL-TTC tablet be used for measurement with reflectance spectrophotometry in order to determine the reflectance of light versus the absorbed dose in a fast and easy manner. On this basis, the PCL-TTC tablet could be characterized by providing information on its dose range, which amounted to 0–2 J/cm2. Moreover, other parameters were derived, such as dose sensitivity, quasilinear dose range, and dose threshold. The morphology of the tablets studied using scanning electron microscopy revealed their high porosity, which however did not influence the reflectance measurements with the aid of the chosen instrument. UVC irradiation at a dose (15 J/cm2) much above the PCL-TTC tablets’ dose range did not alter the morphology of the tablets. The PCL-TTC tablet read with reflectance spectrophotometry is shown to be a promising and fast method for 1D UV dose measurements.
