An innovative measurement setup for the dielectric characterisation of fibres in a terahertz time-domain spectrometer using an HDPE elliptical lens for coupling into the fibres has been built and validated by measurements of several different types of samples. The setup is based on a commercial all fibre-coupled terahertz time-domain spectrometer. Measurements of the effective refractive index have been conducted on polypropylene-based three-dimensional printing filaments, silica glass rods, and a polytetrafluoroethylene cord of lowered density, covering the frequency range of approximately 100 GHz to 1 THz. The theoretical part of the work includes numerical calculations performed via the finite difference eigenmode method and the characteristic equations of a uniform circular dielectric waveguide for a few guided modes, from which it is clear that primarily the fundamental mode propagates along the fibre. Details on model-based phase corrections, crucial to the accurate determination of the effective refractive index of dispersive fibres, have been presented as well.

A novel nonlinear optical crystal of potassium-boro-phthalate (KBP) was grown by a slow solvent evaporation technique. The crystalline nature and cell parameters were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) study. The presence of various functional groups was determined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) spectral analysis. The linear optical properties were determined by UV-Vis-NIR spectral analysis. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of KBP were measured in the frequency range of 500 Hz to 5 MHz at different temperatures. The mechanical properties of KBP single crystal were studied using Vickers microhardness tester. The linear and nonlinear optical properties of the grown crystals were studied to assess its suitability for device fabrication.

The problems of determination of the effective area of the measurement electrode during the evaluation of volume resistivity and electrical permittivity based on measurements in three electrode system are discussed. The presented analysis shows that because of the inaccuracies of formulas given in the standards concerning the effective area of the measurement electrode, the calculation of the volume resistivity and electrical permittivity might be encumbered with errors. The values of these errors are presented graphically. It has been shown that the factor of the measurement electrode extension at the electrical permittivity measurements also depends on electrical permittivity.

In this paper, the thin-film ferroelectric material equation (TFFME), which enables the propagation of solitary polarisation in thin-film ferroelectric materials is investigated, will be expressed through the non-linear evolution models. Ferroelectrics are dielectric materials that explain wave propagation non-linear demeanors. The non-linear wave propagation form is administrated by TFFME. To investigate the characterisations of new waves and solitonic properties of the TFFME, the modified exponential Jacobi technique and rational exp(−ϕ(η))-expansion technique are used. Plenty of alternative responses may be achieved by employing individual formulas; each of these solutions is offered by some plain graphs. The validity of such schemes and solutions may be exhibited by assessing how well the relevant schemes and solutions match up. The effect of the free variables on the manner of acting of reached plots to a few solutions in the exact forms was also explored depending upon the nature of non-linearities. The descriptive characteristics of the reached results are presented and analysed by some density, two- and three-dimensional figures. We believe that our results would pave the way for future research generating optical memories based on non-linear solitons.

The non-local model of electromagnetothermomechanics for polarized nonferromagnetic solids is proposed. It takes into account the process of local mass displacement due to structural changes of a physically small element of a body. An approach which takes into account possible irreversibility of the local mass displacement is also proposed. On this basis, we have obtained the rheological constitutive relations for the vectors of the mass displacement and for the polarization. The proposed model allows to study the surface charge kinetics and the formation of near-surface inhomogeneities of the stress-strained state as well as the electric polarization, surface tension and disjoining pressure.

Ładunek zgromadzony na powierzchni dielektryków stałych, przewidzianych do stosowania w atmosferze wybuchowej, może stanowić potencjalne źródło zapłonu, w związku z możliwością wystąpienia wyładowań elektrostatycznych snopiastych. W artykule omówiono sposób oceny bezpieczeństwa stosowania materiałów nieprzewodzących w przestrzeniach zagrożonych wybuchem. Scharakteryzowano potencjał pola elektrostatycznego i omówiono metody jego pomiaru. Przedstawiono badania rozkładu potencjału elektrostatycznego na powierzchni dielektryków stałych, omawiając kolejno: stanowisko badawcze, metodę badań, sposób elektryzowania próbek, metodę prowokowania wyładowania oraz wyznaczenie rozkładu potencjału elektrostatycznego po wystąpieniu wyładowania. Zaprezentowano wyniki badań rozkładu potencjału elektrostatycznego po wystąpieniu wyładowania elektrostatycznego z powierzchni badanego dielektryka wykonanego na bazie żywicy poliestrowej.

Due to a possibility of occurrence of brush electrostatic discharges, charge collected on the surface of solid dielectric materials intended for use in explosive atmosphere can be a potential source of ignition. Method for assessment of safe use of insulating materials in areas threatened by explosion hazard is discussed in the paper. Potential of electrostatic field is characterized and methods for its measurement are discussed. Tests of distribution of electrostatic potential on the surface of solid dielectric materials are presented, discussing: test stand, testing method, method for electrification of samples, method for provoking the discharge and determination of distribution of electrostatic potential after discharge. Results of tests of distribution of electrostatic potential after electrostatic discharge from the surface of tested dielectric material, which was made on the basis of polyester resin, are presented.

In this paper, the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) resonator is designed to study the influence of dielectric materials on its operating parameters (insertion loss, fractional bandwidth and unloaded Q-factor). The results obtained show that the use of high permittivity substrate in the SIW resonator by increasing its thickness allows reducing the size of resonator by causing the increase in its unloaded Q-factor. A SIW bandpass filter is designed using low temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology and high permittivity substrate. The filter has a fractional bandwidth of 27 % centered at 14.32 GHz with insertion loss of 0.7 dB.

It is important to grow and characterize new bimetallic thiocyanate single crystals as they are expected to exhibit useful optical and electrical properties. In the present study, calcium cadmium thiocyanate CaCd(SCN)4 single crystals were grown by slow evaporation of solvent and were characterized chemically, structurally, thermally, optically and electrically. X-ray diffraction analysis indicates that the grown crystal belongs to the tetragonal crystal system with lattice parameters: a = b = 12.2491(7) Å and c = 15.1012(5) Å. EDAX spectral analysis confirms the expected chemical composition. Thermogravimetric (TG/DTA) measurement implies good thermal stability. Optical (UV-Vis-NIR absorption spectral and SHG efficiency) measurements suggest good optical absorption in the UV and blue regions and the SHG efficiency of 6.13 (in urea unit). The dielectric measurements carried out in the temperature range of 40 °C to 150 °C at five different frequencies, viz. 100 Hz, 1 kHz, 10 kHz, 100 kHz and 1 MHz indicate a normal dielectric behavior.

W pracy przedstawiono rezultaty badań materiału kompozytowego, który jest oparty na czułym na wilgoć materiale dielektrycznym domieszkowanym sproszkowanym materiałem metalowym. Opracowano nową konstrukcję mikroelektronicznego czujnika na bazie materiału kompozytowego, którego czułość wzrosła wskutek zwiększenia dostępu wilgoci do czułego na wilgoć materiału o strukturze metal-dielektryk-metal. Określono charakterystykę przetwarzania tego czujnika.

Results of investigations on a composite material based on humidity sensing dielectrics doped with powdered metal have been described here. The construction of our new sensor is elaborated to improve the sensitivity by a humid accessibility enhacement to the sensitive material with the structure of metal-dielectric-metal. Static characteristics of the sensor is described.
