Research presented in this paper is a continuation of works aiming at a discovery and an assessment of the effects of the internal asymmetries of the salient-pole synchronous machine on the basis of the Fourier spectrum and available currents of stator windings and field current. The results of the analyses conducted so far have been presented in the previous papers by the same authors. The outcomes have proven the consistency of the theoretically derived formulas, identifying the frequencies of additional harmonics in the spectrum of the measured current, appearing as a result of the electrical asymmetry of the rotor windings (the cage or the field winding). Those damages were executed with the use of an experimental synchronous generator, working solely on resistance loads. An assessment of the current state of the windings for the motor work mode of the machine using the same, non-invasive diagnostic method became more difficult when the asymmetry of supply voltages and the so called network harmonics of the higher order in both the stator voltages and the field current are present. The results presented in this paper refer to cases of an damage of the phase of the stator or of the rotor cage. The completed analyses were based on the knowledge of both, the amplitude spectrum and the phase spectrum of the measured current.
