The work analyzes the particular features of application of complex tasks in practical work in the study of computer science in secondary schools. The complex tasks have been developed and used in the study. They consisted of three elements: a theoretical recitation (the study conducted testing and oral defense of practical work), practical and competence tasks. The article aims to analyze the peculiarities of application of such assignments in practical works in computer science in secondary schools in order to form the individual components of IT competencies for senior pupils using complex tasks. The analysis of the roles of a student and a teacher and the formation of the individual components of IT competence of senior pupils with complex tasks was made in this article. There was also a more detailed review of the practical work «Working with tables and images in a word processor Microsoft Word». An attempt was carried out to summarize the requirements for these tasks. During the analysis of the example of the suggested practical work the progress of a student from theoretical reproduction of the learnt material to creation of the own product can be clearly shown. The competence of making the intellective operations is developed. Among such operations there are: analysis and synthesis of the given data, comprehension of the meaning of the concepts, understanding of the own actions, during their execution, estimating the authenticity of the sites, where the search is made. The student’s comprehension of the task and the way to resolve this task is demonstrated by the result of executing every stage of the given work. The implementation of the practical work which consists of complex tasks promotes the formation of the distinct elements of significant and, particularly, informative competences.
