Architektura kształtuje przestrzenie, w których rozwijają się ludzkie zachowania. Obowiązkiem architekta powinno być zatem szukanie odpowiednich rozwiązań kwestii społecznych, kulturalnych, środków wyrazu etc. poprzez akt "czynienia". Prawidłowe rozwiązanie danego problemu jest samo w sobie rodzajem piękna, jest samo w sobie bogactwem. Krótko mówiąc naszą - architektów - powinnością nie jest wcale tworzenie piękna. To raczej coś innego, coś bliższe pragnieniu, wyrażone w myślach i działaniu. To pragnienie piękna.

May be because of this the contemporary Polish architecture is mostly eclectic and needs its own identity. For the last two decades, there Has been a discussion on chaos theory, complexity theory, fractal geometry and architecture in his context. The discussion participants include, on the one hand, mathematicians who have been encouraged by the new field of science to form an original vision of everything that surrounds us, including architecture. On the other hand, there are architects fascinated with new perception of the universe. However, the latter differ in their opinions. Some of them claim that the fascination is an outdated fashion of the 1980s and the 1990s while others enthusiastically welcome fractal architecture as a new and unique style and believe that this is our future. It is absolutely original and hard to perceive. That is why it might be hard to accept. And yet it must be admitted that a significant number of architects have ignored the novelties from the world of science.

There is no doubt that the comprehension of the architecture today differs from the definitions which were accepted, well-known and familiar in 60ties. The architecture as the clear-cut, unambiguous term no longer exists, and the limits of its understanding are no longer determined by physical space, but are fixed by the space of intellectual comprehension. The new sensitivity leads up to the new formula of beauty: between the ability to comprehend and the ability to represent the content of the concept occurs the compatibility, which is the source of the aesthetics experience.

Biorąc pod uwagę naturę przedmiotu i konieczność syntezy zakładamy, że tekst jest raczej zbiorem uwag -bez intencji budowania systemu pojęć, które mogłyby opisać przestrzeń rozdzielającą sztukę i architekturę.

It is a shows how modern understanding of architecture has moved away from ancient definitions present in the Vitruvius's Tractate. The theme has been dived into three paragraphs, covering issues of definition, teaching and scientific research in architecture.

There is following dependence; the less restricted and limited a creator's freedom, the better chance of formal and substantial freedom for a creator of architecture. A creator of architecture is subject to various limitations while creating his/her work and the degree of coping with them determines the quality of architecture under design. A creator's freedom which is not restricted is an ideal that one should aim at, freedom which is limited is the reality of creation. The two presented designs with a strong idea have also been subject to different limitations at the stage of creation; locating, substantial, professional and investing conditions. Both designs can be realized. If they will be and how they will be perceived - time will show.

Czy możliwa jest nowa definicja architektury? Z pewnością tak, ale definicje jednak nie zmieniają rzeczywistości, a co najwyżej pogląd na nią. Współczesna architektura wymaga głębokiej refleksji. Autor proponuje "spowolnienie architektury" w powiązaniu z refleksją retrospektywną i kreatywną. Punktem wyjścia dla przewartościowań w architekturze powinno być spowolnienie współczesnego tempa rozwoju przestrzennego.

Is a new definition of architecture possible? Surely it is, but definitions do not change reality, maybe the point of view. The contemporary architecture needs deep reflection. The author proposes to "slow architecture" in conjunction with both retrospective and creative reflections. The starting point for revaluations in architecture should be the slowdown of current urban development.
