Decision support systems have been used in many various domains since 30 years. From the moment they were created, they are using most of the newest tools introduced to computer science. One of the latest trends in DSS domain is to widen their possibilities to operate on spatial data, which are data placing an object in the location in space, with the use of coordinates. It consists in incorporating to the DSS structure a geographic component, which is called Geographic Information System (GIS). A system that arise in such way is called Spatial Decision Support System (SDSS). In most of the articles related to this topic, the SDSS is defined as a system designed to support the decision making for ill-structured problems, that have some spatial or location components. Empirical studies in decision making with the use of GIS, has shown that the map users make their decisions much faster than the users which have only tables, and the digital maps are more helpful than paper ones, because of their facilities. In the article, the attempt of presenting the issues connected with the structure, functioning of the SDSS and directions of its applications, is made.

Głównym celem projektu jest zaproponowanie nowych i rozwinięcie istniejących metod, narzędzi oraz oprogramowania komputerowego, wspomagających inteligentne modelowanie oraz systemy decyzyjne w zarządzaniu i optymalizacji bezpieczeństwa i niezawodności złożonych rzeczywistych systemów i procesów przemysłowych, wraz ze wstępnymi ich zastosowaniami w sektorze transportu morskiego i nabrzeżnego. Główny nacisk w projekcie położono na zastosowanie nowych technik analizy bezpieczeństwa i niezawodności do projektowania, podwyższania i optymalizacji bezpieczeństwa i niezawodności złożonych rzeczywistych systemów przemysłowych z uwzględnieniem ich procesów eksploatacyjnych. Projekt zaproponuje i rozwinie nowe metody oraz wykorzysta uzyskane nowe wyniki teoretyczne, poprzez ich zastosowanie zarówno do oceny, jak też do projektowania, podwyższania bezpieczeństwa i niezawodności rzeczywistych złożonych systemów i procesów przemysłowych.

A lot of companies have a problem with the selection of the type of computer network, because each of them has different characteristics and specifications. A businessman often does not know what he can expect from them and which type of network will allow him to fully exploit the potential of its business. The main objective of the work is to build a decision support system in this area. Intermediate target is to specify the characteristics or criteria which will be guided by a businessman in this selection. A comparative analysis of the type of access to the network using a case study was made in the work. The paper also developed the concept of a decision support system on the issue in question. As a result, six benchmarking criteria were specified and analyzed: security, data integrity, price, mobility, performance and configuration. As a result of the analysis, the final ranking was presented. Having used AHP method it showed which type of access to the network according to the given criteria provided by a businessman was the most suitable for him.

The article presents the concept of performance management as a new, complex approach to organisation management based on the results of an evaluation. The origin and evolution of performance management are described, as are the differences between Business Intelligence and Business Performance Management, and the benefits of using the latter of these two. The newest concept for applying performance management as a part of the decision-making process, described as Business Performance Management, is shown.

The article presents a proposition of a universal model of knowledge conflict resolving using consensus methods, which can be used in a multi-agent decision support system. Knowledge conflicts often appear, when individual agents generate different solutions of the same problem. It is very difficult for the user – decision-maker to make a good decision because the analysis of solutions generated by agents is very time-consuming and the decision must be made quickly. Moreover, selecting one of the decisions on the basis of the experience of the decision-maker is very risky, because he/she could choose the worst solution. Consensus methods, however, allow to agree, on the basis of the solutions generated by agents, one solution, which is a compromise. As a consequence, reducing the time and decreasing the risk level of the decision taking process, to enable the functioning of the enterprise in more flexible.

The paper presents selected aspects of evolutionary sets of safe ship trajectories-a method which applies evolutionary algorithms and some of the assumptions of game theory to solving ship encounter situations. For given positions and motion parameters of the ships, the method finds a near optimal set of safe trajectories of all ships involved in an encounter. The method works in real time and the solutions must be returned within one minute, which enforces speeding up the optimisation process. During the development of the method the authors tested various problem-dedicated crossover operators to obtain the best performance. The results of that research are given here. The paper includes a detailed description of these operators as well as statistical simulation results and examples of experiment results.

The purpose of the article is to present the essence of distance functions, which calculating is a key phase of consensus determining process in the situation of knowledge conflicts appearing in decision support systems. In the first part of the article, distance function and its general definition are characterized. Next, the definitions of distance functions with regard to the sample attributes of a structure of decision, such as the real numbers, the dates, incomplete ordered partitions and incomplete strict partial orders, are presented.

A direct method of coordination is used at the upper level, while the sectors use a discrete-time event-based model and the description of uncertainty by multiple scenarios of an attack. The resulting problems are solved using linear programming. A comparison of two coordination strategies for realistic attack scenarios and an analysis of effectiveness are provided.

This paper presents the problem of knowledge conflicts identification in the architecture of cognitive agents. The agents operate at the decision support systems. The types and the sample of cognitive agents architecture was characterized in the first part of article. Next, the customer relationship management agent was described and the causes of knowledge conflicts were indicated. The final part of article contains the analysis of sources of knowledge conflicts and their examples related to decision-making process.

The paper deals with a special case of supply networks that consist of three interconnected subsystems: raw material warehouses, production units and product warehouses. The purpose of the decision-making for such systems is to allocate a raw material among parallel production units and to determine transportation plans for the raw material and for a product in such a way as to minimize the total cost connected with the production and the transportation. The solution algorithm for a special case of supply networks, where all production units can produce the same amount of the product from a unit of the raw material, is presented. It is based on a special decomposition of the problem which allows us to determine the solution consecutively for the increasing number of production units involved in the manufacture, starting from the case with only one production unit. A sufficient condition for the optimal solution is proved, and the properties of the algorithm are presented.

Ze względu na różnorodną specyfikę problemów planowania, powstaje konieczność budowy systemów zorientowanych na wybrane klasy pytań rutynowych, w szczególności pytań odnoszących się do wartości funkcji celu wynikających z przyjętych wartości zmiennych decyzyjnych (pytania typu "w przód") oraz pytań odnoszących się do wyboru zmiennych decyzyjnych implikujących oczekiwane wartości funkcji celu (pytania typu "wstecz"). W artykule przedstawiono przykład takiego systemu. Umożliwia on wspomaganie wariantowania/planowania przedsięwzięć produkcyjnych z zakresu problemów charakteryzowanych przez zmienne precyzyjne i/lub nieprecyzyjne, uwzględniających dyskretne zasoby odnawialnych i/lub nieodnawialnych.

The main objective of the paper is to present a prompt service to queries generated in the course of the decision-making process typical for Small and Medium Size Enterprises (SMEs) with multiple production orders. Because the SME's production is driven by production orders, i.e., the client specifies a set of orders to be scheduled, the main goal is to develop a decision support system aimed at routine queries concerning such tasks as: a production plan/schedule, maximal profit, resources availability, financial liquidity, production volume, etc. The system should guarantee the response for two kinds of queries: straight query and reverse query, which should be available in an on-line mode. The system for project portfolio prototyping which enables to deal with cases taking into account both an accurate and uncertain specification problems is presented.

We wstępie przedstawiono zalety analizy wielokryterialnej. Następnie omówiono podział wszystkich metod wielokryterialnej analizy problemu decyzyjnego. Bardziej szczegółowo przedstawiono interaktywne metody wielokryterialnego podejmowania decyzji oraz istotne cechy ich dostępnych komputerowych implementacji. Artykuł kończą przykłady wykorzystania interaktywnych metod wielokryterialnego podejmowania decyzji w elektroenergetyce.

The paper deals with examination of possibility of application of interactive multi-criteria model analysis methods to solve complex decision-making problems in electrical engineering. In the beginning advantages of multi-criteria model analysis and fundamentals of multi-criteria approach were discussed. Then more details of the multi-criteria interactive method were presented and essential features of existing software implementation of interactive multi-criteria method of decision aid were shown. The whole paper ends with examples of applications of interactive multi-criteria model analysis methods in electrical engineering.

Wprowadzenie rozmytości do systemów hurtowni danych pozwala na przetwarzanie danych na wyższym poziomie abstrakcji i wprowadza możliwość analizy danych o nieprecyzyjnym charakterze. Ponadto, umożliwia wyrażanie różnych wskaźników biznesowych w języku naturalnym przy użyciu ogólnych sformułowań typu: dużo, mało, około 10, prawie wszyscy i in., reprezentowanych przez odpowiednie funkcje przynależności. Implementacja hurtowni danych rozmytych i narzędzi analizy danych wykorzystujących elementy logiki rozmytej napotyka na szereg problemów natury technicznej, występujących po stronie istniejących systemów zarządzania bazą danych. W niniejszym artykule, na przykładzie systemu zrealizowanego przez autorów, zaprezentowano architekturę i praktyczne aspekty implementacji hurtowni danych rozmytych.

Incorporation of fuzziness into data warehouse systems gives the opportunity to process data at higher level of abstraction and improves the analysis of imprecise data. It also gives the possibility to express business indicators in natural language using terms, like: high, low, about 10, almost all, etc., represented by appropriate membership functions. There are many technical, server-side problems that appear while developing the Fuzzy Data Warehouse with the use of existing database management systems (DBMSs). In the paper, we show architecture and practical aspects of the implementation of the Fuzzy Data Warehouse system based on our own personal experiences.

Kluczowym elementem każdej analizy sytuacji na podstawie różnych źródeł informacji pochodzących z różnych źródeł są dane. Wszędzie tam, gdzie uzyskiwane dane nie są ani dokładne, ani stuprocentowo pewne, metody oparte na teorii zbiorów rozmytych, które to ze swojej budowy takich danych nie potrzebują, mogą znaleźć praktyczne zastosowanie. Myślą autora jest wykorzystanie tych teorii do opracowania systemu wspomagającego proces rozmieszczania brzegowych stacji obserwacyjnych.

The aim of this project was to create a tool for improvement of microemulsions formulation process. Microemulsions are promising drug forms allowing for improvement of solubility and enabling controlled release of drugs. As a modeling tool, artificial neural networks (ANNs) were chosen. ME _expert system was created basing on the neural expert committee constructed of 11 neural models. ANN were designed to predict occurrence of microemulsion basing on its particular quantitative and quantitative compostion. Generalization abilities of ME _expert were tested in laboratory trials, where 77% of accuracy was found for unknown composition of microemulsion.

The paper presents Decision Support System based on Bayesian Network that can be used during Person Overboard situation on board modern cruise vessels or ferries. Nowadays there are some Intelligent Decision Support Systems assisting navigators to analyse traffic and to take correct decisions to avoid close quarter situations, but there is no automatic tools to support process of making a decisions while emergency situation POB occurs. During that situation time of finding person is the key to determine a successful action and IDSS could help to make action more efficient and in shorter time period.
