The paper discusses cyclical changes of business activity in four sectors of the Polish economy, namely manufacturing industry, construction, motor transport and retail trade. Specifi cally, we use qualitative composite indicators based on business tendency surveys to analyse cyclical fl uctuations in terms of their duration, timing of turning points, amplitude, intensity and leads/lags with reference to GDP. We search for variables that lead changes of business activity (as measured by GDP) in Poland.
