The essence of the presented article is the analysis of four textbooks for teaching the German language which looks into typical elements of German culture as well as cultural universals. The analysis of the following textbooks: Stufen 3, Moment Mal 2, Mittelpunkt B2 and Mittelpunkt C1 has indicated that older ones (more than 10 years older) devoted more attention to typical German culture phenomena and culturally conditioned Polish-German differences than the most recent textbooks where universal areas of reality have been accepted, e.g. travelling, professional life, means of payment, environmental protection. Moreover, new phenomena such as globalization, internationalization, cloning and genetically modified food were mentioned in the textbooks published in 2008.

This research shows the results of the implementation of a public cultural policy at the municipal level and has as a main objective to evaluate, from the perspective of the agenda 21 of culture, the program "Art for social development" by the Municipal Institute of Art and Culture developed in a secondary-level boarding school located at the Topolobampo community, in the municipality of Ahome, Mexico. A QUAN-QUAL methodology was used with instruments like questionnaires applied to the young participants and interviews with the workshop facilitators and administrative staff. Guitar, painting and theatre workshops were given, through which the development of new artistic expression skills was achieved, as well as contributing to the strengthening of social behaviors such as tolerance, patience and interpersonal communication, among others. It was found the constant need of having permanent programs of integral training, both in the field of artistic training and socio-emotional, giving priority to groups at risk, such as students of the boarding school that mostly come from families of scarce resources, some of the low performance academic and aggressive behavior. The conclusion is that public policies are required to promote greater articulation of education and culture in order to have a stronger impact on the social and cultural inclusion of young people.

This article investigates the relationships between culture and education. The historical relationship consists in the fact that cultural history is the history of the development of education. The cause-effect relationship consists in the fact that the level of the development of culture marks the level of the development of education and vice versa. A higher level of culture requires a higher level of education. The progress of education becomes the source of the development of culture and enriches it. The material and spiritual elements of culture mark the content of education and teaching. The process relationship between culture and education makes the consideration of education as cultural process possible; through this process, social-cultural functions are realized: the entry of the human being into the world of culture, socialization, transmission of the patterns of human virtues and actions. This article also undertakes challenges of education in post-Communist countries and sketches postulates which according to the author should be realized in the current system of education.

Materialne i duchowe elementy kultury wyznaczają treść wychowania i nauczania.

The subject of the study is to analyze the use of native drawings as a gnoseological tool in cultural anthropology taking into account the developmental transformations in visual anthropology. This was established as an independent anthropologic sub-discipline aimed at the study of culture especially by means of film and photograph. Native drawing is still rather undervalued in visual anthropology even though it disposes of considerable potential for the research of culture by visual means. This is documented by results of the research conducted by Mead, Bateson, Fortes, Alland and many others whom the contribution pays a special attention. In his study, the author will proceed not only from the analysis of implemented researches focused on native drawings, but he also will build on his own empiric experience with using the native drawings in the research of the Nungon ethnic group of Papua New Guinea. The aim of the study is to introduce the status of using the native drawings in anthropologic research, possibilities of using, analyzing, and interpreting the collected data and wider connections with visual anthropology.

In the midst of debates on possible causes and solutions to the current unrest in international markets, political and economic decision makers tend to primarily focus on the role of economic and financial measures and oversee the fact that the economic instability is also the result of negative occurrences beyond the economic sphere, i.e. in the area of values and culture. With reference to the findings in the 2010 World Economic Forum report and other relevant publications on the role of culture and values in economic development, the paper seeks to answer the question to what extent the present economic crisis is rooted in the crisis of some fundamental values critical not only to a sound economy but also society and what are the possible ways of dealing with it.

In the modern economy, financial systems are vital to the allocation of financial resources. These systems help direct indivudals’ savings to the corporate sector and allocate investment funds among companies. Countries vary in the structure of these financial systems. In some financial systems, the stock exchange dominates, while in others, banks are the most important. What influences diversity in financial system structure? A key factor might be national culture. In order to assess the impact of culture on accounting patterns, it is important to consider the structure of culture and its dimensions. I apply the classification of cultures proposed by G. Hofstede – despite the criticism it received over the years. Cultural value dimensions with a relation to accounting values are as follows: Individualism, Power Distance, and Uncertainty Avoidance. The article also employs S.J. Gray’s theory of cultural relevance. According to Gray, societal values aff ect accounting practices in two ways: indirectly, through their influence on institutional consequences, and directly, through their influence on accounting values such as professionalism versus statutory control, uniformity versus fl exibility, conservatism versus optimism, and secrecy versus transparency. Th e article has implications for those who are responsible for corporate governance codes. It suggests that there is no uniform financial system; the influence of culture and the institutional envoronment are factors which should be taken into account when making any decision in the sphere of accounting.

The article describes the most significant factors of the German identityconstructing process after the World War II comparing it to the same process in the European Union. It focuses above all on the official documents and acts concerning common identity and also asks a question if the process of embedding them in the European law legacy does constitute a tradition characteristic for European Union and forms its own part of its supranational identity. Finally it contains an attempt to answer the question about the future of both German and European identity.

The purpose of this paper is to briefly present some of the forms the world axis takes in Japanese and Romanian cultures through the ages, namely, to show how a mythological concept – the axis mundi – has outlived its mythological existence and has survived up to modern days. We do not intend to concentrate on similarities or differences, but simply present some of the many culture-specific representations of this universal mythological concept: world axis representations in modern Japanese festivals (of which we have chosen three, to represent “pillar torches”: “the Sakaki sacred tree”, “the sacred mountain”, and “the sacred pillar”) and some world axis representations in Romanian culture, such as the fir tree, symbols related to dendrolatry, wooden crosses placed at crossroads, the ritual of climbing mountains, etc.

Taking social relations into consideration allows us to be mindful of the life-world and the social system. A social relation should be intended as an emergent phenomenon of a mutual act, with an autonomous connotation that goes beyond those who implement it. At the same time, it can be traced back to referential semantics, as it exists within a framework of symbolic meaning, and to structural semantics, because it is at the same time a resource and a constraint for the social system. If these are the general foundations of the relational theory of society, adding risk to this perspective as a descriptive model has some distinguishing features. For example, as a dimension of everyday life it is a “neutral category.” It is based on that “insecure security” whose results, positive or negative, will derive from the kind of balance established between “resources and challenges” or, as we claim in this paper, between “goals and means.”

After the October Revolution different nations were forced to live together on the area of totalitarian Soviet Union. Their history got worse after the Second World War when Soviet soldiers and especially Stalyn were considered as winners and in this way they cold “colonise” new countries. Their citizens wanted to regain freedom in the 60’s and 70’s od twentieth century. They were called dissidents. One of the most famous modern Russian writers who presents these subject matters is Ludmila Ulitskaya – the representative of new realism whose books have been translated into 25 languages. In her novels and short stories she concentrates mainly on the silmilarities and differences between The Russians and other nations being under communistic control. Ulitskaya shows that some of them wanted to keep their identity by looking after their own tradition, religion, customs. The novelist tries to prove that it is possible to coexist with each other if you respect different habits and culture and if you desire to communicate with others using constructive dialogue.

This paper presents Bogdan Suchodolski’s (1903–1992) general programme of socialization of the culture and pedagogical programme of creation „the new man”. The main question is: is this conception a marxist’s „programme maximum”? And, if not, what’s the marxist’s „programme maximum” in the subject of culture (in the wider meaning), and what’s the main goal of the marxist’s pedagogics? Is it a programme of humanization of the work, or a programme of egalitarian „kingdom of freedom”, where everybody are an artists? What’s the role of pedagogics in preapering to future „kingdom of freedom”? Could be Suchodolski’s pedagogics usefull in this area? Although Suchodolski’s vision of culture based on optimistic presumptions according possibility of the future humanization of the work, one of the most important goal of his pedagogical programme is preapering to creativity activity during free time and popularization of non-instrumental style of life (also, non-instrumental attitude to the knowledge). The author tries to reconstruct of evolution of Suchodolski’s conception of the future, and suggests, that late Suchodolski modifies his old views on the possibility of radical dezalienation of the work.

The aim of this paper is to capture the cultural specificity of idioms on the basis of relevant literature from Germanic linguistics. In the first step two questions will be raised: in what theoretical framework and in what manner had the cultural specificity of phrasemes been described, so as to create a list of problems on the basis of these observations. The next step is to outline a possible linguistic comprehension of culturally determined idioms within the so-called theory of the “Conventional Figurative Language Theory” and on the basis of an empirical material comprising the results of the international phraseology project “Widespread Idioms in Europe and Beyond”.
