Article discusses linguistic conceptualisations of autoerotic activities-sexual sphere rejected culturally and linguistically, mostly in European culture. Analyses of particular linguistic forms taken from dictionaries and the Internet, are based on a broad cultural and ideological background according to methodological principles of cultural linguistics. There was especially shown an influence of religion and ideology, locating sexual activities in the field of medicine. Those discourses still “command” semiotically and linguistically of the term of autoerotism. Analysis of collected verbal constructions has shown that semantic field of autoerotism contains following elements: 1. official names (found in dictionaries); 2. Socially fixed neutral euphemisms; 3. fixed periphrases with different degree of formality (from vulgar, through colloquial and in everyday use to those used jokingly); 4. periphrases created on occasions which are the most common, also with different degree of formality.

The aim of the present paper is the analysis of old nicknames which relate to the way in which our ancestors communicated. The subject of the analysis are proprial items, which were formed in order to indicate if the speakers were telling the truth, or whether they were gossiping, or saying too much, as well as items which evaluated a person because of articulatory features. The present paper is also an attempt to propose research into axiologically marked appelative anthroponyms within the methodology of cultural linguistics, complemented with biological contexts, especially research from the field of evolutionary psychology and biological anthropology.

The goal of the paper is to present culturemes, a concept used in cultural studies, glottodidactics, translation studies, and ethnolinguistics. As is the case with many terms in humanities, also cultureme has several understandings. In the ethnolinguistic perspective, culturemes are related to Anna Wierzbicka’s key words, Walery Pisarek’s flag words, and Michael Fleischer’s collective symbols. Polish research into culturemes was initiated by Alicja Nagórko who defines them as ‘key words which are important for the self-identification of a community, and which characterize both the community’s attitude towards tradition and inherited values, and how it copes with the present time and with the current experiencing of the world’. One as yet unrealized goal is to identify and list Polish culturemes; this is one of the more urgent tasks of ethnolinguistics.

The article deals with the criterion of the value of phraseology in language-through-culture studies when selecting units for an educational phraseological minimum. The author draws a conclusion that this criterion is realized in practice by means of a combination of other requirements, such as a connection with the lexical minimum, frequency of use. Comparative studies allowing us to structure educational phraseological minima by the parameters of their uniqueness/universality are important when forming educational phraseological minima, oriented towards an audience with a certain native language.

The aim of this article is to reconstruct the linguistic and cultural image of Moscowat the turn of the twentieth century using the paradigm of cultural linguistics. This paradigm was selected as the theoretical framework of the study considering that it practically has not been applied in Russian linguistics. The article shows that the intricate image of the urban space is created by means of cultural elements (the coat of arms, the flag, the bugle call, architecture) and, most of all, linguistic elements whose major exponent is a given urban dialect. It is a wide-ranging construct whose lexis, apart from native elements, also includes a large number of foreign components and proprial (official and unofficial) vocabulary. The conglomerate of these elements can be regarded as a specific language of the urban space.

The paper is based on marital and family letters; the author analyses them using pragmalinguistic and cultural linguistic methods. The article focuses on the phrases which copy or replace the gestures people make during face-to-face communication. The analysed expressions inform mainly about kissing, blessing, and the need of physical closeness. They are used to maintain emotional bond between the distanced family members. Relating to other sets of correspondence from the past, the phrases used by the Pawlikowscy are characterized by freshness and originality; they testify to the creativity of the authors, drawing from the morphological and lexical resources of the 19th century Polish language.

Understanding the complexity of a teacher and its role in modern society is vitally important for the advancement in education. The aim of this research paper is to introduce the concept of cultural linguistics and to determine the impactsand the broad understanding of the role of a teacher, referredin this article as the pedagogue in the era of information and communication technology. Evidence suggest that there is a growing need to reestablish the position of a pedagogue which is one of the most important factors in the proper approach to the use of technology in modern schools. To recognize this role, the fundamentals of cultural linguistics and its schemes will be used to highlight the need for further research. A number of cross-sectional studies has accentuated the problem of digital technology in the classroom and the role/scheme of a pedagogue (Palmer, 1996; Ceratto Pargman, 2019; Sharifian, 2011, 2017). This study identified the key elements of a pedagogue and presented a sample of exercises that can be used by a teacher to utilities the digitalization of schools.

Interdisciplinarity is one of the contemporary lines of research in what are broadly understood as humanistic disciplines (although not only in these ones). It is reflected, among other things, in the megatrends of the 21st century, one of the most significant of which is the drive towards the transition from mono- to multiculturalism. Against such a background the contemporary issues of cultural linguistics and communication are outlined. The main thesis of the paper is that intercultural foreign communication is not a simple transfer of the knowledge of a new culture, but it consists in developing abilities to understand it, to combat prejudice and negative stereotypes with reference to one’s own culture, as well as to the foreign one which is being acquired.

The aim of this study is to reconstruct and compare the linguistic picture of two concepts: Spanish TRABAJO and Polish PRACA (work). The analysis refers to the theory of the linguistic picture of the world by Jerzy Bartmiński. The material for investigation was selected from two legal documents: Fuero del Trabajo (1938) and the Constitution of the Polish People’s Republic (1952). The study was based on the overview of the collocations of lexemes praca and trabajo. The quotes containing mentioned lexemes were assigned to four categories (called aspects): political/institutional, social, ideological and economic. Then, to find the similarities and differences between the two concepts, the cognitive definitions of both of them were developed. The results affirm the thesis that TRABAJO and PRACA have many semantic features in common, however, we find the different connotations because of cultural and ideological differences.

The article deals with word-formation in the language of mass media as one of the phenomena in cultural linguistics. Studies basing on the cultural linguistics approach, which stipulates the language study in close conjunction with the culture of its native speakers, serve the theoretical foundation for the research work. Nonce words collected in the Russian mass media texts and formed by non-usual methods basing on the precedent phenomena have served the actual material of the research. Study of innovations interaction with the basic precedent units has indicated the cultural linguistic marking of derivation processes taking place in the language of mass media caused by economic, political, social and cultural situation in the country. Social attitudes and evaluativity of nonce words reflect the specific features of the linguistic world picture in the contemporary Russian social community. The derived words formed on the basis of the precedent phenomena enable to focus the readers’ attention to the urgent public issues, as well as to foreground their cultural knowledge.

In this article we consider the method of contrastive analysis of башня (tower in Russian) lexeme, where the Russian language will be the source language, and the Czech and English languages will be the languages of comparison. In the study we will describe the comparison of the data of etymological dictionaries in three languages. The aim of this comparative analysis is discovering similarities and differences in the sub-systems of three languages. The central concept of contrastive linguistics is the notion of interlingual correspondences – units of different languages having similarities in composition of semes. Formally, there are three types of correspondences: linear correspondences, vector correspondences, lacunae. In this article we will consider one of them – fragmentary lacunarity.

Juraj Dolník (born on 20 August 1942) ranks in the number of top Slovak linguists. He is a scholar in general linguistics, Slovak studies, and German studies. Within synchronic Slovak studies, he has devoted special attention to lexicology and to the aspects of cultural stylistics, social linguistics, and linguistic pragmatics. His ideas about language culture have become significant stimuli for the Slovak linguo-cultural theory and language-advisory use. He laid the foundations of linguistic othernessstudies in the Slovak linguistic environment. The introduction presents Dolnik‘s basic biographical data, professional andprofessional development, characterises the main areas of his scholarly, broadly interdisciplinary work, and highlights his focus on the practice of language use. The second part characterises Dolnik‘s interdisciplinarity and deep orientation in philosophy, psychology and sociology in relation to the linguist‘s knowledge of language and its functioning in contemporary communication.

Cultural linguistics as a modern branch of the science of language exerts a detrimental effect on linguistic research, particularly in methodology. It is justly criticized for deficiency of logic, intuitive knowledge and subjectivity. The empirical method proves that linguistic structures typical of a particular language are not to be identified with a peculiar world view. Language has no creative potential to spawn a world of its own, so the phrase “linguistic mentality” is nothing but a metaphor. There is no asserting parallel relationship between thought and language, nor the dependence of ethnic mentality on a certain language type. Variation in world views prevails over language structures, inasmuch as a variety of ways to express ideas exceeds the number of language types.

The author reviews contemporary cultural linguistics (as one of the fields of anthropological linguistics) in two Slavic countries: Poland and Russia. The first part of the article discusses the general theoretical foundations of cultural linguistics, as well as the circumstances in which it was established in Poland and Russia (USSR). In the second part, the author discusses the distinguishing features of both linguistic traditions. So he writes that in Russia, researchers are more interested in linguoculturology, in particular in the description of concepts and the so-called konceptosphere. In Poland there is a stronger tradition of researching folk culture, folk psychology and folk language, for this reason the methodology of Polish research is based to a greater extent on empirical procedures, such as field research and surveys.

The aim of the article is to show the linguistic creation of God and the relationship of man towards him in the poetry of three female poet-teachers who live and work in Pomerania: Małgorzata Borzeszkowska, Hanna Glok-Lejk and Anna Halasz. The text uses fragments of 25 works of those poets that show the analysed conceptualisations. The linguistic creation of God and the relationship between man and God in the works of female poet-teachers from Pomerania uses simple language and colloquial vocabulary. The use of such a language emphasises the closeness of man and God, but also shows the weak faith of man. God is shown as always present in human life with his love and care. A man who doubts, does not perceive this presence, a man who follows the path appointed by the Lord, realises his vocation by daily work, striving for God until the fi nal union with the Supreme.

Celem artykułu jest ukazanie językowej kreacji Boga oraz stosunku człowieka do Najwyższego w poezji trzech nauczycielek-poetek mieszkających i pracujących na Pomorzu: Małgorzaty Borzeszkowskiej, Hanny Glok-Lejk i Anny Halasz. W tekście wykorzystano fragmenty 25 utworów, które pokazują analizowane konceptualizacje. Językowa kreacja Boga i relacji człowiek – Bóg w utworach nauczycielek-poetek z Pomorza wykorzystuje prosty język i słownictwo potoczne.

The text aims to review research directions and introduce the issues of perception, interpretation, and verbalization of a musical work in the context of the cultural background of both the composer and the listener-interpreter. The first part of the article highlights the cultural determinants of music reception from a sociological, psychological, and musicological perspective. A dual approach to the analysis of musical material, the composition process, and the interpretation of a musical work is distinguished, depending on whether culture is perceived as a subjective or universal cognitive category of an individual. The same differentiation is introduced in the final part of the text, where, based on the assumptions of cultural linguistics, elements of the linguistic worldview of music are described, divided into linguistic universalisms and subjectivisms. The final part of the text also outlines the current state of research on the verbalization of musical works, emphasizing the need for confrontational studies as crucial to uncovering the influence of culture in translating the language of music into natural language. The conducted review of research trends leads to the conclusion that the interpretation of a musical work is both a culturally universal and individual phenomenon. A similar phenomenon can be observed in the linguistic analysis of the verbalization of musical work interpretation – linguistic universalism pertains to the perception and description of the constant elements of a musical work and is often institutionalized in the form of terminology. Subjective elements of the language of perception and interpretation of a musical work are related to the socio-cultural situation of the individual as well as their emotional and axiological approach.
