The formation, growth and sedimentation of intermetallic phase is one of the methods used to produce from scrap - commercial purity aluminium alloys. The formula of the sedimented phase was established basing on the chemical composition determined by the x-ray microprobe analysis of the sedimented particles. Until now the quarternary Al-Fe-Mn-Si equilibrium phase diagram is not known. The structure of this phase was studied using the X-ray powder diffraction technique and electron diffraction on thin foils using TEM. Both methods confirmed that the structure of the Al7(Fe,Mn)2Si phase has a cubic lattice with a parameter ao=12.56 A and 144 atoms per unit cell and belongs to the Im3 space group. The formation of this structure was confirmed in alloys with a chemical composition similar to the studied intemetallic phase.
